Position Summary:

This role is considered a Store Manager in-training role and is intended to develop the candidate into a single unit store manager within 6-12 months. During this temporary role, the candidate will rotate between time with the District Manager as well as multiple Store Managers within their assigned District. The Developmental Store Manager will be given training goals, operational projects, and will temporarily oversee stores as part of development and training. Travel between stores will be common as personalized training plans will be built

around the candidate. Upon completion of training candidate will be assigned to a mutually aligned location within the assigned District.

To be successful, the Store Manager must build and support a store culture, in partnership with key stakeholders, that is aligned to West Marine Core Values. This leader is also responsible for maintaining a strategic view of store talent, recruiting and development of others, driving execution of sales and service strategies, analyzing relevant data to inform store-specific strategies, championing customer service, proactively addressing store needs, and acting as West Marine’s brand ambassador for the community.

Travel Requirements: This role does not require regular overnight travel; however, this role will need to travel to meetings, trainings, or to support neighboring stores within their assigned district.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Ensuring Crew Members are delivering friendly, professional, expert knowledge and timely service to all customers who shop the store.

• Monitor the performance, profitability, and flow-through of store plans and programs.

• Being a change champion, leading and implementing West Marine strategic plans and process.

• Manages the overall store operations (i.e., expenses, merchandising standards, compliance, safety, security, and workforce) and those directly helping customers to drive positive customer experiences, sales, conversion, West Marine Advantage growth, as well as margin performance.

• Responsible for maintaining a strategic view of store talent, recruiting and development of others, driving execution of sales and service strategies, analyzing relevant data to inform store-specific strategies, championing customer service, proactively addressing store needs, and acting as West Marine’s brand ambassador for the community.

• West Marine Crew Members deliver quality customer service while maintaining a store that is clean, safe, and stocked with the products our customers need.

Education, Experience & Skills:

Minimum education required/preferred, area of study:

• Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience leading associates in a retail environment, with Sales Volume exceeding 1M annually OR 5 years of experience leading associates in a retail environment, with Sales Volume exceeding 1M annually.

• Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, marketing, or related field preferred

Minimum years of relevant experience required:

• 3 years of experience working in a fast-paced, cross-functional work environment.

• Experience building partnerships within the community.

• Experience analyzing and using customer, market, and competitor data to inform decisions and business planning.

• Experience managing a store within the retail or marine industry preferred

Additional skills/knowledge required include:

• Seasoned retail leader – existing District Manager or Store Manager for specialty or big-Box retailer.

• Passion for boating – do not need to be a boating expert, West Marine will train you on boating!

• Physical ability to perform tasks that may require prolonged standing, sitting, and other activities necessary to perform job duties.

• Minimally must be able to lift 25 pounds without assistance; may lift over 25 pounds with or without assistance.
