Cloud Software Engineer

Position Summary

DarkStar Intelligence is actively seeking an experienced Cloud Software Engineer to design, develop, maintain, and enhance advanced Big-Data Cloud systems based on specific, documented requirements. This role involves leading back-end processing tasks and providing expertise in Cloud Computing, Hadoop Ecosystems, Java applications, Distributed Computing, Information Retrieval (IR), and Object-Oriented Design. The selected engineer will operate both independently and as part of a team, ensuring software components adhere to design specifications, troubleshooting software issues, documenting results, and offering input on hardware/software trade-offs. The engineer will utilize the latest software development methodologies and consider the use of COTS/GOTS products where applicable.

Salary Range: $240k - $270k

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance complex Big-Data Cloud systems tailored to specific requirements.

  • Lead efforts in back-end processing, data analysis, and indexing for large-scale data systems.

  • Provide specialized knowledge in Cloud Computing and Hadoop ecosystems, and build Java applications for Distributed Computing, Information Retrieval (IR), and Object-Oriented Design.

  • Conduct software component reviews, ensuring alignment with design requirements, and document test results.

  • Quickly resolve software issues and problem reports.

  • Apply best software development and system design practices, including system architecture and software reuse.

  • Make informed recommendations on hardware and software trade-offs, including Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) and Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) products.

  • Perform in-depth requirements analysis and breakdown from the system level to individual components.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph clearance.

  • 12 years of relevant software engineering experience in comparable programs.

  • 4 years of experience working on Big-Data cloud technologies and/or Distributed Computing systems.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (additional experience may substitute for a degree).

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline can substitute for 2 years of required experience.

  • Cloudera Certified Hadoop Developer certification may substitute for 1 year of Cloud experience.

    Technical Skills:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with Cloud and/or Distributed Computing Information Retrieval (IR).

  • Proficiency in implementing code that interacts with Cloud Big Table, Distributed File Systems, and Cloud Coordination Frameworks.

  • Experience in designing and managing multi-node cloud-based systems, including MapReduce analytics.

  • Expertise in debugging issues related to Cloud-based Distributed Computing Frameworks and JVM memory management.

  • Experience with virtualization, cloud computing, and management of distributed cloud installations (e.g., VMWare, Python, CFEngine, Bash, Ruby).

  • Skilled in securing Cloud-based applications with firewalls, PKI certificates, and server authentication.

  • Hands-on experience with tools like YARN, J2EE, Zookeeper, HDFS, HBase, and JMS.

  • Familiarity with data ingestion, parsing, and analysis of various data formats (XML, JSON, CSV, Avro, etc.).

    Desired Qualifications: 

  • Experience with Cloudera version 7.1.x is highly desired.

  • Knowledge in implementing complex workflows for Cloud MapReduce analytics.

  • Experience in SIGINT collection disciplines, geolocation, and signal analysis.

  • Proficiency in managing multi-node cloud-based installations and guiding software development teams.

  • Proven ability to debug and architect solutions for Cloud-based Distributed Computing systems.

  • Expertise with tools like Subversion, ClearQuest, or Razor for configuration management.
