This opportunity resides with Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C5ISR), a business group within HII’s Mission Technologies division. Job Description

This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD Skillbridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD Skillbridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. HII Mission Technologies Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII.

Objective

The Skillbridge intern will train as a Facilities Manager / Security Officer within the HII Mission Technologies, reporting to a designated HII supervisor, with the goal of learning Facilities Management and Industrial Security principles, technologies, and core functions, as well as the roles and responsibilities of working as a Facilities Manager / Security Officer on a corporate team. The intern will be assigned special projects as needed.

Desired End State (3-month target)

At the end of 2 months, the intern will be able to describe core functions of Facilities Management and Industrial Security, gain hands-on experience in applying the skills and knowledge learned in the military to the corporate-world problems and projects.

Essential Job Responsibilities

Training Location: Fort Meade, MD

Training Plan

Week 1: Orientation and Introduction

  • Company orientation, meet and greet with team members.

  • Introduction to HII Mission Technologies, overview of the facility, and understanding the role of a Facility Security Officer (FSO).

Week 2: Security Fundamentals

  • Training on the National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual (NISPOM) and Intelligence Community Directives (ICDs).

  • Introduction to personnel security, physical security, and document control.

Week 3: Facility Management Basics

  • Overview of facility/property management.

  • Training on the opening, closing, and daily management of a commercial facility.

Week 4: Classified Material Handling

  • Procedures for safeguarding and accountability of classified materials.

  • Implementing and adhering to a clean desk policy.

Week 5: Insider Threat Program (ITP)

  • Introduction to the company’s Insider Threat Program.

  • Participation in security self-assessments and investigations of security infractions.

Week 6: Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

  • Training on authoring and maintaining SOPs.

  • Practical exercises in SOP development and implementation.

Week 7: Critical Infrastructure

  • Understanding alarm systems, access control systems, and fire alarms.

  • Interface with vendors providing these services.

Week 8: Security Inspections

  • Preparation for hosting government inspectors.

  • Conducting mock security inspections and responding to findings.

Week 9: Facility Management Practices

  • Task coordination and vendor contract review.

  • Maintenance and accountability of furniture, equipment, and IT devices.

Week 10: Financial Review and Compliance

  • Financial review of facility expenditures and allocation of costs.

  • Ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Week 11: Classified Systems and Logistics

  • Training on receiving and managing classified systems and equipment.

  • Handling and logistics of classified materials, including secure transportation and storage.

Week 12: Final Assessment and Feedback

  • Comprehensive review of all training modules.

  • Final assessment, feedback session, and preparation for transition to full-time role.

Additional Goals

  • Introduction and integration to Veteran Alliance Network (HII Mission Technologies Veteran Resource Group).

Minimum Qualifications

Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service. Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction.

  • Transitioning US military service member with Facilities Management, and Industrial Security experience

  • Enrollment and completion of CDSE Facility Security Officer Program online training coursework

  • TS/SCI w/CI Poly required
