Transportation Engineer III:Performs advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties: Performs advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications,estimates and contracts.Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing forcomplex transportation projects.Interprets manuals and required guidelines for traffic operations.May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.Reviews and assists districts with the planning, design of PSE, and the letting for traffic management systems.Reviews and revises schematics, PSE, project designs, shop drawings and field changes for traffic control devices,signals, signs, markings, detours, traffic control plans, electrical distribution and roadway lighting and traffic managementsystems.Reviews literature, technical data, material specifications and procedures.Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests.Reviews, coordinates, monitors and approves routine and emergency maintenance contracts; performs/oversees maintenancespecifications writing/review, plans and proposal review, and preparation of estimates for letting.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
