Job Description

Gilead's mission is to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that will improve the lives of patients with life-threatening illnesses worldwide. As the Associate Director, Project Management position, you will report to the Head of Global Commercial Project Management (GCPM) and will support Gilead’s mature product programs within the Established Products (EP) area, managing cross-functional project teams, in support of business-critical projects in the Gilead portfolio, across multiple therapeutic areas, including HIV, HCV and antifungals, including high-profile initiatives.

The successful candidate will be dynamic, multi-faceted and an experienced project/program manager with excellent project management capabilities and track record, highly organized, with strong attention to detail. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have the proven ability to effectively manage, drive large and complex projects and workstreams; effectively network across the organization and communicate with senior leaders, all within a very dynamic, fast paced environment.

This role is a Foster City Office based position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage cross-functional project teams and initiatives, including co-chairing timely, efficient, and action-oriented project team meetings.

  • Orchestrate key processes in EP (e.g. License Withdrawal Assessment)

  • Direct team operations, managing multiple touchpoints and communication channels, engaging stakeholders, keeping them abreast of project activities & status, drive towards decisions in a timely manner.

  • Develop and manage project scope, deliverables, resource requirements, and identification of program/project risks.

  • Maintain detailed work plans, including identification of project tasks, clear milestones, and assignments of work project responsibilities, schedules, plans, resources, and status reports.

  • Coordinate project management resources support for functional areas across multiple projects, attending sub-teams and working groups where appropriate.

  • Lead the team and cross-functional stakeholders in discussions to anticipate/identify project issues/risks which may be a barrier to achieving strategic goals; proposes, contribute to and implements plans to resolve such issues and execute corrective actions as appropriate.

  • Partner with project lead to develop, contribute to project strategy, gain approval at governance committee review.

  • Coordinate and contribute to preparation of high-quality documents for governance committee reviews, may represent EP teams and attend senior management review committees.

  • Co-leading with project lead in the design, implementation, and update of life cycle EP plans

  • Guides program transitions to EP.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and 10+ Years’ Experience

  • OR -

Masters' Degree and 8+ Years’ Experience

  • OR -

Pharm.D./Ph.D. and 2+ Years’ Experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience must include 5+ years of leading cross-functional project management activities within the pharmaceutical industry, building, managing and articulating comprehensive, complex, cross-functional plans.

  • Excellent project management capabilities with the ability to apply principles, concepts, practices, and deep understanding of project management the standards of pharmaceutical project management to this role.

  • Highly resourceful and strategic thinker with strong emotional intelligence and operational rigor; able to help teams anticipate, plan, and adapt to an evolving environment.

  • Excellent analytical skills with an ability to summarize and present complex information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Demonstrated consistent cross-functional collaborator, and business partner, directly contributing to teams to achieve overall objectives.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills across functions; comfort in business and technical discussions with senior leadership. Able to influence without direct authority.

  • Experience driving large initiatives from framing the problem, conducting research / analysis to building the business and operational plans through to driving execution to success.

  • Relevant professional experience in the Pharmaceuticals/Biotechnology industry, ideally in multiple parts of the value chain (e.g. Global strategy, Commercial, Research and Development, project management).

  • International work experience and experience working with global markets preferred.

  • Able to create an inclusive environment and lead empowered teams who operate with high standards of alignment, trust, accountability, expertise, transparency, and collaboration.

  • Able to take accountability and empower individuals and teams to make effective decisions which are aligned with the company’s vision, values and goals.

  • Advanced knowledge and skill with project management software/tools, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel and other reporting and tracking tools.

  • Serve as key process and thought partner to program leads and Head of Global Commercial Project Management.

  • Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative, and innovative high-growth environment. Must be able to work under minimal and at times no supervision.

  • PMP (Project Management Professional) or other PM certification or equivalent a plus.

The salary range for this position is: $191,335.00 - $247,610.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
