Job Description
Gilead's mission is to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that will improve the lives of patients with life-threatening illnesses worldwide. As a Director, Business Strategy and Operations, Managed Markets, you will serve as a key business partner to the Managed Markets team and broader cross-functional partners. This role acts as a 'linking pin' between multiple functions, leads and drives tactical and strategic projects, provides analytical and operational insights, and ensures coordinated communications across functions in alignment with the unit's strategic priorities and direction.
The successful candidate will be a self-starting project manager extraordinaire with a strong track record of strategic and operational work experience across various settings and topics in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry. Candidates must have a track record of driving project success without direct authority, effectively network across the organization, and communicate across all levels in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Targeted focus on driving business results and strategic initiatives through operational rigor, collaboration, and cross-functional/leadership alignment
Uncover areas within the business to focus on performance and efficiency improvements to unlock productivity and accelerate execution and support project management of these initiatives aligned with US Managed Markets and US Commercial Goals
Proactively initiate relative discussions with the Managed Markets leadership team and ensure the VP is informed of key project pain points and decision actions.
Develop and maintain detailed work plans on key initiatives, including identifying project tasks, clear milestones, and assignments of work project responsibilities, schedules, plans, resources, budget, and status reports.
Collaborate across multiple internal functions to manage employee, customer, partner, and other appearances for the executive, including prioritization of internal and external events based on impact and strategic goals, partnering on preparation, and ensuring timely follow-up.
Work closely with Managed Markets leadership and other functions (e.g., matrix partners, Public Affairs, and HR) to partner on internal communications strategies and preparation/content for impactful presentations. This includes QBR/business updates, leadership meetings, project/initiative presentations, all hands presentations, follow-up communications, and online/social media communications.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and Twelve Years' Experience
OR
Masters' Degree and Ten Years' Experience
OR
PhD and Eight Years' Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Highly resourceful and strategic thinker with strong emotional intelligence, operational rigor, and project management capabilities
Demonstrated consistent cross-functional collaborator and business partner, directly contributing to teams to achieve overall objectives
Strong leadership and communication skills across functions and leadership teams; comfort in business and technical discussions. Able to influence without direct authority
Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative, and innovative high-growth environment
Experience driving large initiatives from framing the problem, conducting research/analysis to building the business and operational plans through to driving execution to success is required
Depth of understanding of the function's financials; in partnership with finance partners, identifying initiatives to support BU priorities
Strong enterprise thinking and approach
8+ years of growing responsibility with broad exposure to multiple functions
High proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel
Foster City-based and willing to travel as needed

The salary range for this position is: $221,170.00 - $286,220.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
