Summary

The General Foreman Production optimizes the safe production of salt in the mine operation through the supervision and control of mining department employees working within the constraints of capital and operating budgets, mine plan and scheduling. The General Foreman Production will assist management to ensure mine production and operational activities are achieved to mine plan specifications, by promoting continuous improvement and driving ongoing change in levels of safety, productivity, cost and quality.

  • Consistently provide leadership and promote safe productive behaviors.

  • Comply with the site’s safety, health and environmental standards and procedures.

  • Promote awareness of safety, health, and environmental practices and ensure that all personnel know and follow the company’s policies, procedures and standards for safety, work assignments, and MSHA regulations.

  • Demonstrate effective performance in achieving safety, health and environmental goals in support of the department, site and company standards.

  • Demonstrate leadership in safety through conversations and leading by example.

  • Provide clear expectations on performance in safety, health and environmental compliance through setting objectives and KPIs.

  • Ensure safety incidents are thoroughly investigated and recommendations are implemented.

  • Take an active role to ensure that regulatory obligations and standards are met.

  • Effectively lead supervisors and unionized production and maintenance personnel within a 7/24 schedule.

  • Ensure ongoing effective people management of staff by setting clear performance objectives, providing regular feedback and development through training of employees.

  • Ensure personnel are assisted to achieve their full potential.

  • Ensure all employees attend work in a punctual manner and that correct procedures are followed in cases where absences may occur.

  • Ensure the mine development and operational activities are achieved to plan specifications.

  • Ensure resources are available and utilized in an effective and efficient manner to achieve budget.

  • Ensure costs are controlled to meet budget and where possible reduced to achieve savings.

  • Effectively communicate to encourage team involvement, engagement and address concerns, suggestions, grievances, etc.

  • Consistently holds team leaders accountable and follows the site progressive disciplinary policies.

  • Ensure work is conducted according to established procedures and in the safest manner.

  • Ensure that all work areas are kept in a safe and clean condition.

  • Ensure that communication and best work practices are achieved through conducting safety/toolbox meetings at the beginning of each shift.

  • Ensure that mining production targets are achieved through effective supervision of mining personnel, effective partnership with management, maintenance personnel and cross shifts, effective planning, organization and allocation of work on each shift.

  • Continuously improve the skills/knowledge of operators to optimize mining performance.

  • Constantly monitor process performance and take corrective actions when necessary.

  • Identify and quickly resolve process or mine problems.

  • Contribute to cost efficiency of the department/shifts through monitoring and controlling usage of stores items, minimizing waste, ensuring that mine equipment is operated efficiently, ensuring employees are kept fully informed of duties, constantly looking for process improvements and cost reduction opportunities.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience and a minimum of 7 years of experience with 5 years management experience.

Preferred

  • Minimum 5-10 years’ experience.

  • Post-secondary education in related field; related job experience will be considered.

  • Strong Leadership Competencies.
