The State Highway Administration’s (SHA) District 7 is currently recruiting for a District Equipment Supervisor (Facility Maintenance Supervisor II) in Frederick County. This position is open to SHA employees who meet the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy or function only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitments conducted for this job classification.

Nature of Work:

This is a managerial, administrative, and supervisory position which functions as the district equipment and facilities, preventative maintenance and procurement manager. This position manages the repairs, maintenance and renovation work on motor vehicles, diesel powered equipment, construction equipment and other associated equipment within the facilities. This position is responsible for ensuring the operational availability of mobile equipment and for continuing inspection of the equipment. This position ensures that automotive and construction equipment is operated and maintained according to the manufacturer’s prescribed standards in conjunction with the safety requirements of the Maryland Safety and Health Act. This position also supervises shop chiefs and lower-level equipment technicians and is responsible for a wide variety of procurement processes including writing generic contracts.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six (6) years of experience in construction, facilities maintenance or skilled trade work. One (1) year of this experience must have been in a supervisory capacity.

Selective Qualification: Three (3) years of the required experience must have involved the management of a facilities/equipment maintenance program.

Notes:

  1. Work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

  2. U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis.

Licenses & Certifications

Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the state of Maryland with less than four (4) points.

Special Requirements:

  • Employees applying for the Facility Maintenance Supervisor II classification may be required to possess and maintain a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the State of Maryland, depending on the type of equipment operated, that may be required for continued employment. This includes obtaining and maintaining a valid US DOT Medical Card (or MVA-issued waiver) every two years. Note: Employees must meet all Department of Budget and Management policies required for operation of State-owned vehicles.

  • Candidates and promotional employees hired into the Facility Maintenance Supervisor II classification may be required to satisfy the employing administration's training and certification program requirements during the probationary period.

  • Employees may be required to satisfy the employing administration's training and certification program requirements to obtain and maintain permanent status in this classification.

  • Employees seeking transfer to another administration may be required to satisfy that administration's training and certification program requirements.
