About You and This Role:

You are a self-starter who can identify, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks. You can provide support to the operation of the Research & Development (R&D) Pilot Plant. You can work directly with engineers, scientists, leaders, and other technicians to ensure safe and proficient operation of the plants to deliver samples and process data as requested in the planned experiments.

In this role, you will be using standard operating procedures and prior related experience, job-related training, or vocational training to complete routine activities and continue to develop the technical skills to follow the established and approved work processes and operating discipline. You will need to understand how these assigned tasks relate to other jobs and be able to exchange technical information within your workgroup.

It is your responsibility to use procedures to resolve straightforward problems. You are accountable for managing your assigned tasks and the accuracy of your own work. You will receive supervision and guidance in this role. This position supports Dow’s Packaging, Specialty Plastics & Hydrocarbons Research and Development Programs and is located at the Freeport, TX site.

Responsibilities:

  • Works within guidelines and a defined area to ensure safe and efficient operation of assigned plant areas

  • Operates and field checks process equipment, and monitors process conditions, equipment, and control systems in a defined area

  • Performs tasks assigned to operations as per Master Task List (e.g. Field checks, equipment preparation, samples, etc.)

  • Develop basic trouble shooting skills to resolve process related deviations and problems

  • Monitors, collects, and inputs plant metrics for Statistical Process Control, asset utilization, conversion costs, production yields, and identifies opportunities for plant optimization

  • Develop skills to performs process equipment troubleshooting, minor repairs, improvements and preventative maintenance

  • Write Safe Work Permits and perform lock out/tag out

  • Seeks guidance and training from Sr. Pilot Plant Technicians and Technologists

  • Understanding and application of Life Critical Standards, operate plant discipline, and facility safety culture

  • Completes all assigned training per facility training plan

Required Qualifications

  • A High School diploma (or equivalent)

  • A minimum of three years of laboratory or manufacturing experience required.

  • Must have the ability to follow a 12 hour rotating shift schedule.

  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications

Associates Degree with emphasis in Process Technology, Chemistry, Biology, or similar technology related area + at least one year relevant work experience preferred.

Physical Demands:

  • Wear safety equipment, such as earplugs, goggles, and steel-toed shoes

  • Wear and use respirators.

  • Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting.

  • Work in tight or closed-in spaces.

  • Climb stairs/ladders and work high off the ground.

  • Stand or walk for extended periods of time.

  • Frequent/occasional lifting of material weighing approximately 50 lbs.
