TIAA Lead Cloud Architect in Frisco, Texas

TIAA is aggressively modernizing our infrastructure and application portfolio by migrating to the cloud. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Cloud Architect to join our team. We are committed to improving the speed at which we bring innovation to our customers, and cloud computing expedites that time-to-market while providing a new level of security for our customers’ most important data.

This role will assist in this technology transformation and develop new tools and methods of working into the future. We are seeking a hands-on innovator for this transformative work for both TIAA and its customers. As the Lead Cloud Architect, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing our cloud infrastructure to support our organization’s goals and objectives. You will play a significant role in driving our cloud strategy, ensuring the scalability, security, and efficiency of our cloud solutions. We work in a hybrid-flex environment (i.e., three (3) days in the office and two (2) days virtual).

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders in Enterprise Architecture, development teams, and infrastructure teams to develop conceptual solution designs, bill of materials, and systems architecture designs which can be implemented by internal TIAA teams and technology partners. Assists the team in aligning architecture to business requirements. Works across the organization to foster a culture of applying applicable and relevant design patterns, in accordance with the needs of the company and guides the teams in the organization in anticipation of future use cases.

  • Collaborate with numerous stakeholders across the organization to foster a culture of partnership that allows for iterative, autonomous development and future scaling. Guides teams in the organization in anticipation of future use-cases and helps them make design decisions that minimize the cost of future changes.

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership in the development and implementation of cloud-based solutions.

  • Collaborate with the security team to set and refine organization-wide security strategy. Fosters a security first mindset across the organization. Drive security awareness and culture across the organization.

  • Design and architect scalable, secure, and reliable cloud infrastructure that meets the needs of our business.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify requirements and define cloud architecture best practices.

  • Lead the implementation of cloud services and technologies, ensuring optimal performance and cost-efficiency.

  • Develop and maintain cloud governance policies, standards, and procedures.

  • Conduct regular assessments of our cloud environment to identify areas for improvement and optimization.

  • Stay current with the latest trends and advancements in cloud technologies and provide recommendations on their adoption.

  • Ensure expectations across the organization and external stakeholders are transparent between all parties involved. Identifies dependencies across the organization and collaborates with individual teams to resolve them before they become an issue and installs preventative measures to mitigate repeat occurrences.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 or more years of experience as an enterprise Cloud architect role acting as an individual contributor or leading a team in the design and implementation of IT Cloud architecture.

  • At least 3+ years of experience in AWS or GCP or Azure (i.e., at least one cloud platform) cloud architecture and engineering

  • At least 3+ years of hands-on experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.

  • At least 3+ years of proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, PowerShell, or similar languages.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field or equivalent experience

  • Possess In-depth understanding of cloud architecture principles and best practices.

  • Possess excellent verbal & writing skills; experience writing and contributing to both product & technical documentation.

  • Demonstrated understanding of computer networking and security fundamentals, tools, and techniques typically encountered in troubleshooting distributed systems.

  • Demonstrated expertise in cloud security, including identity access management.

  • Demonstrated results in designing, delivering, and sustaining major Infrastructure as Code (IaC)-based computing infrastructure.

  • Possess professional Cloud Certifications: Cloud Solutions Architect.

  • Experience with DevSecOps practices.

  • Experience with GitOps practices and Service Meshes (e.g., Istio).

Base Pay Range: $127,800/yr. - $181,500/yr.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
