Summary

Currently seeking an experienced marine welder in support of U.S. Army Watercraft to support Field Level Watercraft Maintenance and Repair Services at Joint Base Langley Eustis to maintain fleet readiness.

What You Will Do...

Master understanding of production and processes and the ability to read blue prints, technical manuals and drawings in support of Field Level Repairs and preventative maintenance checks and services. Responsible for interfacing with ship's force, working in a team environment, understanding of ABS requirement specific to welding and fitup requirements, the ability to receive work direction from others or to provide direction to others. At times, there will be more than one job or work order to manage and plan for. Have skillful knowledge of trade functions, understanding and experience with tools required to support job, and the ability to maintain and conduct required maintenance to tools. Performs a variety of complicated and non-routine tasks. Develops and uses technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports. Schedules, reports and briefs customers and senior management. May perform quality inspections on finished product. Performs duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.

What You Must Have...

  • High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 6 years of related experience.

  • Must have at least 4 years marine welding experience.

  • Must be or previously certified 6G pipe welding position with experience in MIG, TIG, and STICK steel, CuNI, and aluminum. Must be able to produce qualification and certification.

  • Must be able to calibrate and make repairs as needed on tools and equipment. Ability to ensure all welding equipment is maintained and certified.

  • Must be able to read blueprints, technical manuals, schematics or drawings, and/or related technical documentation.

  • Must have ability to make decisions using best marine practice while complying with policies, procedures, and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain DBIDS badge.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

  • Must have master understanding of production and fit up experience.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

Preferred: Bonus Points For...

  • Prior U.S. Army Watercraft experience.

  • Prior experience welding with Army certification 88L30.

  • Prefer technical/professional certifications.

  • A current, valid DoD security clearance.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
