UFVH is currently hiring veterinary technicians/nurses for the emergency and critical care service. The University of Florida Veterinary Hospitals are comprised of Large Animal, Small Animal, and Diagnostic Laboratory services as well as both on site and satellite Emergency facilities. Our Emergency & Critical Care Department is a 24/7 service with flexible schedules, giving you 4 days off a week to enjoy all Gainesville and the surrounding areas have to offer.

Available Shifts

  • Friday-Sunday and Saturday-Monday, both day time and night shifts available. May require working alternate shifts, holidays, and weekends. This position is considered essential personnel and is part of the Emergency Response Team.

Expected Salary:

Veterinary Technician I: $20-27/hr

Veterinary Technician II: $23-32/hr

Minimum Requirements:

Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Technician I: High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Technician II:Credentialed veterinary technician.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prefer applicants with 3-5 years of experience in emergency and/or critical care medicine.

  • Graduation from an accredited veterinary technology program and/or certified veterinary technician or eligible to sit for the VTNE.

  • Knowledge of animal care and nursing, especially critical care.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and terminology.

  • Knowledge of the equipment and materials used and their availability and applications.

  • Ability to effectively maintain a working environment while in stressful situations.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees of various levels and responsibilities.
