Job Description:

The University of Florida’s Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics is a vibrant group of faculty, staff, and trainees working towards impactful education and discoveries in Pharmacology. The University of Florida is currently ranked as the #5 public University (US News and World Report, 2022-2023). The Department is ranked #12 and rising in the Nation by BRIMR in NIH funding (2023) and is seeking a Lecturer to support its commitment to education. This position will provide the applicant with the opportunity to engage in teaching in many different settings and modalities including in prestigious professional programs (MD, PA, DDS, more), PhD, and Master’s program courses. Modalities will include both in-person teaching as well as involvement in our market-leading online graduate programs. The initial focus will be on education in Master’s-level education, including in development and implementation of a new Master’s program. The applicant will have the opportunity to improve their teaching skills through a variety of experiences and working with established and successful medical educators. Opportunities for promotion and engagement with other leading Departments and Colleges at the University are available. The lecturer will work in three primary functions:

  1. Delivering traditional, in-person lectures to professional (MD, PA, and DDS) students at the University of Florida along with graduate students (PhD, MA, MS) in the Department and College of Medicine’s graduate programs. These lectures will include but won’t be limited to basic principles of pharmacology along with the scientific underpinnings behind the clinical use of many classes of drugs.

  2. Support existing distance education programs, including the Graduate Certificate in Medical Pharmacology and the Master’s of Science with a concentration in Medical Physiology and Pharmacology. This role will primarily consist of providing direct feedback on student assessments. Creation and implementation of new, innovative assessments will be encouraged.

  3. Creating and developing new courses or programs in the candidate’s areas of interest or expertise along with the needs of the Department. There is a strong focus on the growth of AI and drug discovery.

Any other duties, as needed, to fulfill the mission of the Department.

Variety in audience, content, and modality, along with the opportunity to be creative and constructive in educational practices will make this position fulfilling for the dedicated educator. Due to the mixture of in-person and online teaching, a hybrid work schedule is available.

Expected Salary:

$68,000 - $72,000

Minimum Requirements:

Candidates are required to hold an advanced degree (PhD or Master’s) in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Physiology, Neurobiology, or other closely related field. Candidates with a relevant clinical doctorate will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates should have previous training and/or work experience in the field of Pharmacology, including in lecturing / teaching Pharmacology, Pedagogy, Demonstrated experience teaching at the College level is highly desired, working knowledge of computer science / artificial intelligence (AI) / machine learning and experience with online teaching modalities, including Canvas, would be beneficial.
