About the role:

We are currently looking for a Supervisor who will provide leadership to a team who will be responsible for dynamic system modeling, system protection applications, development of engineering criteria, system analyses, NOVEC's distribution system reliability, and the interconnection of large customer loads, inverter-based and renewable energy resources to the transmission system. This position will lead the effort of communicating technical and design information to NOVEC's residential and commercial customers, industrial customers, data center customers, government entities and third-party builders and developers. This role will be responsible for evaluating the performance of the assigned team and proactively initiate measures to correct instances of work product not meeting established quality standards.

Overview of the role:

Supervises a team of engineers and technical support personnel to develop engineering designs, system analyses, and system improvement projects and programs. Devises communication plans and articulate planning information to internal, external customers, counties, builders and developers.

  • Responsible for the preparation of utility engineering designs, system analyses, and work orders. Reviews system capacity and reliability studies, protection settings, electrical designs, and proposed projects for accuracy. Schedules and assigns projects and daily work to the planning team.
  • Leads large, technical projects and programs as assigned by the Manager, System Engineering.
  • Develops, evaluates, and maintains standards, guidelines, best practices and policies for the development of engineering designs and system analyses.
  • Responsible for direct reports' development through mentoring, instruction of technical engineering principles and identification of appropriate training opportunities. Teaches all applicable governing codes for conforming engineering designs.
  • Ensures the entire planning team is knowledgeable of and adheres to company policies, safety rules, and terms and conditions under which NOVEC provides electric service.
  • Provides guidance and direction for professional communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Evaluates the performance and development of direct reports throughout the year and provides constructive feedback as needed.
  • Collaborates with peers in Distribution Design, GIS, Standards, Work Management, Substation and Telecommunications, Metering, Operations and Construction to complete projects in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participates in developing the System Engineering and Planning department manpower, training, and operating budgets.
  • Maintains cost control for assigned budgets.
  • Leads continuous improvement efforts to identify efficiencies and new improvements.
  • Attend utility conferences and NOVEC sponsored events to increase industry knowledge, network with utility peers, and to market NOVEC.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
