DESCRIPTION

Investigate complex application and system problems, understand causal mechanisms, recommend appropriate action, own problem resolution, and document results. Apply and improve application and systems development processes and tools including system specification, modelling and simulation, calibration, Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R), and troubleshooting. Make key decisions in the areas of systems design, requirements, calibration, and test that impact the quality and performance of calibrated subsystems and feature classes of electronic subsystems. Lead Machine Integration and Optimization by combining various parts of sub-systems into a whole to achieve the output most desires by users. Apply Cummins’ installation requirements using company standard tools, processes and identified best practices to ensure optimization of performance, reliability, cost, and quality. Analyze technical issues using the 7-Step Problem Solving Process and Rapid Problem Solving in order to troubleshoot techniques to solve issues efficiently and effectively. Determine assignable cause of product problems, implement robust, data-based solutions, and identify the systemic root causes in order to recommend actions to prevent problem reoccurrence. Coordinate the development of design verification and system validation plans from a variety of inputs to identify failure modes while managing risk and relative priority. Evaluate analytical and experimental test results following engineering principles to verify products meet internal technical requirements and to validate the design solutions meet user needs. Produce recommendation with technical documentation to guide product decisions. Utilize Systems Requirements Engineering methods and tools to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which designs are developed. Establish acceptance criteria for the system of interest through comprehensive analysis, allocation and negotiation. Track the status of requirements through the system lifecycle, assess the impact of changes to system requirements on project scope, schedule, and resources, and create and maintain information linkages to related artifacts. Guide the project team in the Systems Thinking process including defining the system of interest by drawing the boundaries, identifying its context within its environment, its interfaces, and that it has a lifecycle to aid in planning the problem statement, scope, and deliverables.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Positions require a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or related field and 4 years of experience as a Controls, Systems, or Product Engineer or related position. Experience to include: System specification and calibration, Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R); Machine Integration and Optimization; 7-Step Problem Solving Process and Rapid Problem Solving; Identify systemic root causes; Design verification and system validation to identify failure modes; Systems Requirements Engineering methods and tools; Track requirements through the system lifecycle; Systems Thinking process.
