  • Five (5) years of directly related service line management experience

Job Summary:

The Service Line Manager for Operations reports to the Vice President, Health System Strategy (VP, HS Strategy) and is responsible for coordinating the operations of various Service Lines to deliver high value to patients. The Service Line Manager must effectively coordinate with leaders across Health System and Faculty Group Practice in providing leadership and oversight for designated strategic activities. The Service Line Manager will provide leadership across the enterprise, collaborating effectively with Department Chairpersons, Division Chiefs, Medical Directors and VP, HS Strategy. The Service Line Manager will implement the vision and direction provided by leaders and advise them of plans and initiatives.

Scope: UTMB Hospitals and Clinics at all clinical sites throughout the UTMB Health System. The Service Line Manager for Operations has responsibilities to coordinate with all areas providing Operations Services in a matrix environment.

Job Duties:

Administrative Leadership

  • Leads patient focus process improvement initiatives

  • Coordinate quarterly market share analysis across all key service lines

  • Coordinate quarterly business plan review across all service lines

  • Coordinate monthly financial review across all key service lines

  • Coordinate annual service line medical director goals across all key service lines

  • Operational responsibility for Bariatric Program

  • Coordinate across the Hospitalist Service Line with key stakeholders in the Faculty Group Practice, Institution Support and Health System

  • Coordinate across the Critical Care Service Line with key stakeholders in the Faculty Group Practice, Institution Support and Health System

  • Coordinate across the Pediatric Service Line with key stakeholders in the Faculty Group Practice, Institution Support and Health System

  • Coordinate across the Digestive Health Service Line with key stakeholders in the Faculty Group Practice, Institution Support and Health System

  • Dotted line operations responsibility for Trauma Certifications

  • Operational responsibility for Mainland EMS contract

  • Implements strategies collaboratively with leaders across the enterprise.

  • Manages and provides status reports on a regular basis to the Vice President, Health System Strategy regarding projects being considered or implemented in the areas of responsibility.

  • Participates in the implementation of the annual strategic plan for the Health System.

  • Supports physician hiring activities

  • Contributes to the institutional knowledge of the latest trends, practices, and state-of-the-art technology as applicable to assigned areas of responsibility.

  • Creatively identifies opportunities for improvement in all aspects of the service line.

  • Facilitates communication and problem resolution.

  • Serves, as requested, on task forces, work groups, or committees.

  • Networks with other departments and services to further program development.

  • Works diligently with other departments on various projects as necessary or as assigned.

  • Assists Medical Directors in implementation of new and advanced techniques for patient care.

  • Accepts responsibility for personal professional development and demonstrates desire for personal growth.

Resource Management

Capital Budget Control

  • Participates in the development of a 5-year capital plan

Strategic/Business and Program Planning

  • Participates in the development and implementation of the long-range goals and objectives of the UTMB Health System.

  • In collaboration with the VP, HS Strategy, develops and implements strategic plans.

  • Participates as appropriate in service line activities in collaboration with other institutional leaders.

  • Develops a process to assure timely communications to stakeholders about the status of projects being planned or implemented.

  • Works closely with the Academic

  • Maintains an in-depth knowledge of the changing health care environment.

  • Participates in the development of marketing and promotional initiatives.

  • Works with the Decision Support Department to develop dashboards.

  • Participates in the development and implementing of long-range goals and objectives.

  • Develop a process to assure timely communications to stakeholders about the status of projects being planned or implemented.

  • Promote interdisciplinary teamwork and demonstrate such through collaboration with Chairs, Chiefs and Medical Directors

  • Promote alignment between the Academic Enterprise and Health System through shared vision and aligned goals.

  • Identifies strategic opportunities for growth.

  • Maintains knowledge and awareness of industry trends and competitive dynamic of the local and regional environment.

Service Provider

  • Provides a high standard of customer service to the administration, physicians, and representatives of the external organizations.

Personnel Management

  • Maintains professional affiliations and enhances professional development to keep current in thelatest healthcare trends and developments.

  • Collaborates with all members of the leadership team required; provide support for Health System leadership on projects as assigned.

Communication

  • Works with the VP, HS Strategy to assure external and internal communications are appropriate, complete, clear, and professional. Assists by drafting routine communications and assisting in the development of various presentations.

  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

Marginal or Periodic Functions:

  • Gathers data and participates in the department’s Performance Improvement and Patient Safety program.

  • Performs related duties as assigned by Senior Management and Physicians.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Business knowledge:

  • Key knowledge of modern health care administration, principles and practices within a managed care environment and/or an academic medical center

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision and administration as applied to the management and direction of personnel within areas of accountability

  • Effective managerial and administrative abilities as applied to the complex environment of an academic health center

Salary Range:

Actual salary commensurate with experience.

Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm and as needed on occasion.
