Cedar Fair Waterpark Safety Area Manager in GALVESTON, Texas

Overview:

Under occasional supervision, manages the park’s daily risk exposure in the areas of fire protection/prevention, safety, and first aid. Ensures compliance with all safety laws, rules, and OSHA and environmental regulations. Manages and reviews the work of subordinate staff. Administers and supervises all operations related to the health and safety issues of associates, guests, and Park property.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the maintenance of the park’s Safety Data Sheet and Hazard

  • Adheres to and reinforces all Cedar Fair and specific Park policies and procedures, including safety, attendance, and EEO policies, and demonstrates commitment to customer service in all aspects of employment.

  • Monitors associate work practices and area not only for safety, but industrial hygiene, which relates to long-term effects or concerns such as chemical exposure, noise, lighting, heat, humidity and radiation.

  • Assists with evacuations, emergency response; coordinates outside responses within safety, fire and First Aid area.

  • Facilitates the activities of the safety committee by providing technical and administrative support.

  • Responds to and takes appropriate action to resolve safety concerns and complaints from patrons and associates.

  • Communicates safety-related issues through management safety bulletins, safety newsletters, memos and meetings.

  • Coordinates the implementation and execution of the Drug Screening program established by Corporate policy. Oversees the pre-employment screening, along with random tests conducted throughout the season. Coordinates the program, with assistance of trained staff members.

  • Attends meetings, makes presentations to staff and others.

  • Assist all departments in establishing and implementing safety, security, and emergency procedures.

  • Knowledge in safety and health regulations.

  • Coordinate regular safety and fire inspections on premises.

  • Oversee the company’s fire control and suppression systems through proper maintenance and monitoring.

  • Responsible for establishment and revision of the Emergency Action Plan.

  • Ensure that the company and staff follow all appropriate public agency requirements and compliance guidelines. This includes permits, notification procedures, accident investigations and inspections as directed.

  • Communications Program.

  • Prepare and administer the budget for safety department.

  • Conducts and investigates on Guest Claims by taking photographs, gathering witness statements, conducting hazard analysis, root cause analysis, contributing factors, determining liability and providing solution on claim. To include submission of financial documentation for the claim.

  • Conducts regular park wide safety inspection audits, identifies areas of noncompliance, creates corrective action plan, submits work orders and coordinates with various Maintenance personnel in order to correct the issue. Follows up on corrective actions to ensure completion and compliance in a timely manner.

  • Regular attendance.

  • Ability to work with people.

  • Good judgement.

  • Provide job training.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Some college in Health, Safety and Environmental or related field preferred.

  • 3-5 years related experience in Health, Safety and Environmental or related field or 3-5 years amusement park leadership.

  • EMT or RN Certification preferred.

  • Completion of a OSHA 30 training course, or soon after employment

  • Bi-lingual preferred.

  • Ability to operate a vehicle, Park rides, and a variety of equipment such as a computer, ambulance, crane, scissor lift, fire suppression equipment, rescue/extraction equipment, gas detector, weather monitor, First Aid equipment, security equipment, protective gear, etc. during emergency operations.

  • Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.

  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holiday periods to meet business needs.

  • Ability to pass a mandatory (or random) drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by state or provincial law.

  • Ability to pass a background check, if 18 years of age or older, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, state, or provincial law.

  • Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, picking, pinching, typing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motion of the hands, wrists and/or fingers.

  • Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
