JOB SUMMARY:

The Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology at Adelphi University seeks to enhance its roster of distinguished faculty through the addition of a colleague with a strong background in Clinical Psychology. We are seeking candidates who have a strong commitment to teaching undergraduate and graduate students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Candidates will be expected to contribute primarily to our APA accredited PhD program in clinical psychology in terms of teaching, scholarship, research, and service.

  2. In addition to teaching courses in clinical psychology broadly defined, applicants will mentor, advise, and supervise PhD students and will also have the opportunity to mentor and advise students in the undergraduate and master’s degree programs.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  3. Applicants for this Assistant Professor Tenure-track position must have a doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) and will begin teaching no later than the Fall 2025 semester.

  4. Applicants with a strong publication record are preferred. Research and scholarship areas are open; however, those should be impactful and clinically relevant.

  5. Applicants must be licensed as a psychologist or eligible for licensure as a psychologist in New York State.

  6. Applicants should have experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

  7. Derner has long been recognized as a center for psychoanalytic thought and a leading contributor to the practice of integrative psychotherapy. For this assistant professor position, an interest in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic theory, research, and practice would be advantageous.

    SALARY INFORMATION

    In compliance with New York’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $80,000 - $85,000. Adelphi University considers factors such as departmental budgets, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. An annual base salary higher than the range may be warranted in circumstances where a candidate has demonstrable equivalent prior higher education experience at another University.
