Job Title: Electrical Controls Engineer

Job Description

We are looking for a highly skilled Electrical Controls Engineer who will be responsible for designing electrical control systems, programming PLC solutions, and creating BOMs for custom industrial automation equipment. The ideal candidate will possess strong experience in electrical design and controls engineering, with a focus on PLC programming using Allen-Bradley and Mitsubishi systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical controls systems and PLC program solutions based on standard engineering principles, NEC codes, and customer specifications.

  • Create BOMs and programs required for projects.

  • Order electrical parts and set up in the shop.

  • Complete electrical drawings, collaborate with customers on required changes, hand off to panel shop for construction, and resolve problems throughout the process.

  • Input all programs and perform debugging of entire system after wiring completion.

  • Meet with customers for final approval and prepare equipment for shipment.

  • Assist customers with installation of equipment and provide on-site training.

  • Support the Application Engineering team in pre-sales technical concepts and budgeting.

  • Analyze project requirements and perform technical calculations supporting design, including electrical requirements, robotic safety standards, and motor controls.

  • Support manufacturing and validation of systems which include pneumatics, servomotors, VFDs, relays, communication networks, touchscreens, and robot integration.

  • Create customer documentation such as user manuals, programming diagrams, network diagrams, and electrical drawings.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in PLC programming, specifically Allen-Bradley and Mitsubishi.

  • Experience in electrical design using AutoCAD.

  • Ability to debug HMI systems.

  • Strong exp in controls engineering and electrical engineering.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in the automotive industry.

  • Ability to design, program, and debug multiple brands of PLC control systems and HMIs.

  • Experience integrating and programming multiple brands of robots and vision systems.

  • Ability to understand and create drawings in AutoCAD, and prepare material, time, and labor estimates.

  • Maintenance exp is a plus.

Work Environment

The work environment includes both office and machine shop settings, as well as client sites for installation. The role involves 25% travel within the US, typically with 2 weeks to a month notice. The team environment is highly collaborative, with a focus on group efforts and keeping everyone challenged. You will work on a variety of different projects, ensuring that tasks are not repetitive and involve working with different automotive customers.
