Job Title: Manager, Information Security

Department: Information Resources and Technology

Facility: Glassboro

Reports to: Director, Information Security Office

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Information Security Officer and IRT management, this position will

provide a well-rounded security skill set to the Rowan University community. This individual will

take part in all aspects of operational duties of the Information Security Office including handling

end user tickets from faculty, staff, students, and internal department personnel. This position

will act as the lead on efforts related to vulnerability management and also take part in projects

related to cloud security, risk assessment, penetration testing and audit, compliance efforts, etc.

This will also be a member of the Rowan Incident Response Team. This is a community-facing

position and requires excellent communication, organization and customer service skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Management of University vulnerability management practices, risk assessments and

design/assessment of mitigating controls.

  • Interact with internal IRT departments to ensure compliance with Rowan policies and processes

as well as industry best practices

  • Review potentially compromised accounts and systems for purposes of validation and

remediation

  • Take part in the Rowan IRT risk management process to review internal and external scans of

the Rowan infrastructure and assess/remediate risk profiles

  • Work with internal and external customers to identify risks and provide solutions for security

vulnerabilities, handle customer requests requiring ISO approval, etc.

  • Work collaboratively with other team members on various security-related projects to support

new solutions in the Rowan computing environment

  • Take an active role in the Rowan Incident Response Team

  • Engage with other team members to write, provide input on and implement policies, standards,

procedures and guidelines in accordance with industry best practices

  • Willingness to obtain industry standard cybersecurity certifications

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A career-level interest in cybersecurity is required

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills are an absolute requirement for this

position

  • Strong understanding of network communications and protocols, network and host-based

firewalls, IP addressing, etc.

  • Strong understanding of host and network vulnerabilities, threat and vulnerability scanning,

attack methods, command and control channels, etc.

  • Understanding of secure network architecture and related topics strongly preferred

  • Knowledge of general information security topics

  • Incident response and management experience preferred.

  • Project management, time management and organization skills

  • Ability to work equally well independently and in a team environment

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent preferred

  • Minimum 5 years information technology experience including increasing levels of responsibility required

  • Minimum 3 years information technology experience in large scale environment

  • Minimum 3 years experience to include work in areas of cyber security

  • Additional professional experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis
