Description
The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for the overall maintenance and repair of the A/C units and fan coils on campus and student housing. This position reports to the Lead HVAC Mechanic.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Repair and maintain, A/C units and fan coils on campus including condos and student housing.
Install new ductwork, Staefa & Talon AX controls, Phoenix Control, and AirCuity
Repair refrigerators, drinking fountains, lab freezers, chromatography refrigerators, and cafeteria equipment.
Order and install A/C parts, air filters, water filters for drinking fountains and ice machines.
Maintain parts inventory and ensure efficient and economic use of supplies and materials to conserve University resources.
Schedule times with air filter company to change air filters in all main buildings on campus.
Arrange a time for apartment filter changes and changing filters.
Maintain chiller, boiler and water tower, water pumps, chemicals, motors central plant of mechanical plants.
Assist with the maintenance on hot water re-circulating pumps, ensuring bad pumps are replaced
Responsible for checking roofing of all Midwestern University properties and calling roofing companies for leaks found in roofs.
Assist with the development and implementation of a preventive maintenance system as assigned by Supervisor or Lead HVAC Mechanic.
Help with event setups on campus
Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
High School diploma or GED required. One year certificate from college/technical school or Associates degree or equivalent from two-year College/Technical school is preferred. EPA Universal Certification is required. Must have 1-2 years of HVAC/R experience. Experience in building maintenance is desired. A valid driver's license is required.
Computer Skills
Computer proficiency in MS Office, Word. Excel knowledge is desired.

Regularly the employee will be working near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outdoor weather conditions. Occasionally the employee will be working in wet or humid conditions (non-weather) work in high, precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather) and occasionally there is a risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
