Google Quantum Research Scientist, Chip Architecture Processor Characterization in Goleta, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience

  • Coding experience in Python, JavaScript, R, Java, or C++

  • Experience with quantum computing

  • One or more scientific publication submission(s) for conferences, journals, or public repositories

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience collaborating with technical teams to integrate components into a complex system

  • Experience with superconducting circuit design and electromagnetic simulations

  • Experience with calibration and control of experimental hardware

  • Experience contributing to or maintaining a large, collaborative software suite

  • Experience with radio frequency or microwave engineering

  • Track record of communicating scientific findings

The Processor Architecture team integrates design, fabrication, and hardware improvements into our exceptional quantum processors. The flagship processor’s aggregate performance relies on components including: coherence, single qubit and two qubit gates, readout, fast reset, parametric yields, etc. As a Research Scientist on this team you will integrate improvements in design, fabrication, and the hardware system into flagship processors through experimentation and also collaborating with subteams new technology proof of concepts. You will design, execute, and collaborate on experiments to identify or mitigate limiting error mechanisms in integrated processors such as coherence, parametric yield, and fabrication process.

The full potential of quantum computing will be unlocked with a large-scale computer capable of complex, error-corrected computations. Google Quantum AI's mission is to build this computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Our roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $136,000-$200,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Characterize qubit chip prototypes and flagship hardware to synthesize measured characteristics into actionable changes collaborating with theoretical and experimental physicists.

  • Design and layout prototype superconducting circuit devices.

  • Integrate improvements in design, fabrication, and the hardware system into flagship processors through experimentation.

  • Collaborate with and support component teams new technology proof of concepts.
