As the Royal Canadian Air Forces’ prime service provider at 5 Wing Goose Bay, Labrador, our team delivers comprehensive air operations, emergency services, logistics and engineering expertise to the Department of National Defence. We work on behalf of DND’s “no fail” mission at Goose Bay: supporting NORAD operations for the projection of air power on the north and northeast coasts of Canada, while supporting military training for the Canadian Armed Forces, Allies and NORAD. 5 Wing Goose Bay provides effective training facilities, adaptable infrastructures, and a unique, austere, and challenging training location. You will be part of a team that works closely with the military customer and other Serco teams to deliver quality and efficient services to DND. In this role, you will:
Read diagrams and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
Install sheet metal items for heating-cooling/exhaust equipment (including insulation), machinery according to layout plans using hand pneumatic and power tools, and/or welding equipment.
Operate hoisting and lifting devices to position machinery and parts during the installation, set-up and repair of sheet metal items.
Assist shop Supervisor/lead mechanic with estimates for repairs and/or installations.
Adjust, repair and install dampers and repair or replace defective parts.
Operate machinery and tools to fabricate parts required during maintenance or set-up of machinery and/or equipment.
Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work.
Fabricate sheet metal items prior to installation using hand, pneumatic and power tools, and/or welding equipment.
Assemble and position scaffolding, ladders, and other elevated work platforms for the installation/checking of heating-cooling/exhaust duct systems and sheet metal items.
Required to assist other trades/Trades Helpers in performance of their duties.
May be required to operate light duty vehicles and other vehicles in the performance of their duties.
Required to train apprentices up to Journeyperson level and endorse appropriate documentation.
Required to periodically work in adverse weather conditions and remote locations.
Ensure all assigned deliverables and other reports are completed accurately and on time.
Visibly demonstrate Serco Values and work practices while completing duties.
Other related duties relevant to this position as may be required.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Possession of a valid Journeyperson Sheet Metal certificate for the Province of NL.
A valid NL Class 5 driver’s license is required.
Possession of or the ability to obtain and maintain a Ramp Defensive Driving Course (DND/RDDC) certification to operate vehicles on the airfield is required.
Ability to obtain and maintain an Enhanced Reliability security clearance is required. May be required to upgrade to Secret Level II (dependent upon customer’s security requirements).
Must successfully pass a Pre-Employment Drug and Alcohol Screening Test.
Ability to obtain driver abstract.
Hourly Rate: $38.85 Hours per week: 37.5
