Essentia Health Nursing Director in Graceville, Minnesota
Job Description:
This position oversees all aspects of patient care for Nursing and Patient Care Services at the assigned hospital as well as nursing professional practice oversight and leaders throughout the community in which the assigned hospital is located (including acute, ambulatory, home health and long term care nursing). The Nursing Director – CAH works directly with the hospital administrative leader within the CAH and associated regional leadership model and closely with Market Chief Nursing Officer to guide nursing’s growth, clinical practice, staffing effectiveness, and patient satisfaction. Coordinates activities between defined areas and provides clinical and administrative leadership and expertise. Facilitates an atmosphere of interactive management and the development of collegial relationships among nursing personnel and others. Has major responsibility for the implementation of the vision, mission, plans, and standards of the organization and nursing services within defined areas of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:
Manages the fiscal and clinical operations of assigned hospital
Develops department budgets and financial analysis and planning of nursing resource in collaboration with CAH administrative leadership, regional administrative and nursing leadership and the East Market CNO
Integrates department services with the hospital’s primary function maintaining communication with medical and nursing staffs, Administration, patients and their families/significant other. Coordinates and integrates services within departments
Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support provision of medical surgical services. Supervises nursing staff and assures staff competency
Participates in Magnet Nursing Journey and related initiatives
Conducts ongoing assessment and improvement of the department’s performance
Promotes the Quality Management program of the facility maintaining appropriate quality control programs (where applicable). Oversees and drives performance in quality metrics, patient safety and clinical excellence initiatives
Participates in strategic planning: Develops, markets, implements, and evaluates new services and programs recommending space and resources needed
Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies
Establishes and promotes collaborative relationships with physicians and other health providers and participates in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs of patient care
Promotes and facilitates intradepartmental, interdepartmental and regional communications and relationships among clinicians and staff
Develops goals and objectives for nursing within areas of responsibility and in partnership with the regional and market nursing leaders, and participates in development of goals and objectives for Nursing Services and Nursing Professional Practice at the system level
Supports and enables orientation, in-service training, and continuing education for all staff within the department
Engages staff in active participation nursing, unit, hospital and regional committees, unit, facility and system professional governance initiatives, etc.
Assesses and evaluates staff, creates coaching and development plans to achieve and sustain high performers
Collaborates with all relevant leadership, and the CNO, Human Resources and Talent Acquisition re workforce planning and hiring needs and disciplinary action
Develops and sustains strategies to ensures patient and family satisfaction
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) and Master’s Degree in Nursing or Business-Related Degree are required. [NOTE: If Master’s Degree is in process, expected graduation must be within 6 months of hire date.]
Required Qualifications:
Five or more years of demonstrated clinical nursing leadership and management experience required
A minimum of 3 years in Progressive Nursing Leadership roles
Results oriented and engaged in collaborative goal setting
Displays sound judgment and critical thinking
Demonstrates time management skills, including prioritization, timely follow up and deadlines
Quality performance monitoring, labor management, scheduling, clinical / contract and new hire processes
Evidence of preparing and monitoring annual Nursing unit budgets
Sound Fiscal Management skills
Excellent inter-personal and inter-professional communications skills; in writing and verbally
Ability to build effective working relationships and connections locally and across a system of care
Previous experience in a Matrix organization
Previous experience with Magnet Nursing program is a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Executive in Nursing Practice (CENP) or Nurse Executive – Board Certified (NE-BC)
Licensure/Certification Qualifications:

- Active and unencumbered RN license in MN, WI or ND required (license requirement dependent on State location of CAH)
