Maintenance Technician

Leggett & Platt, Incorporated is looking for someone to hire to be a Maintenance Technician in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

SUMMARY: 

Repairs tools and fixtures as required.  Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems by performing the following duties.

 

What you'll be doing:

Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
  • Listen for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction. Review variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
  • Dismantles defective machines, tools, fixtures, and other equipment and installs new or repaired parts.
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
  • Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.
  • Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
  • Repairs and maintains physical structure of establishment.
  • Installs, programs, or repairs automated machinery and equipment such as robots or programmable controllers.
  • Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  • Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures.
  • Monitor and report (to supervisor) all lock-out and tag-out procedure violations.
  • Interprets blueprints.
  • Measures, marks and scribes material for machining.
  • Sets up and operates bandsaw, grinder, drill, milling machine, table shaper, router, upright drills, edge sander, mitre saw, lathe, milling machine, and related woodworking equipment, to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures.

A few things you'll need:

  • Must be able to operate fork lifts and platform lifts where needed or required.
  • Must be able to work at heights up to 24' when required.

     

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and analyze professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
