What You Will Do:

  • Conduct architecture design, simulation, modeling, board level circuit and system design for sensing products in the entire lifecycle of a new product.

  • Independently design and develop electrical components and sub-systems for medical devices.

  • Develop and apply advanced circuit and electrical system test methods.

  • Conduct or design advanced prototyping and testing.

  • Conduct advanced problem-solving, identify potential solutions, and evaluate them against component and sub-system requirements.

  • Conduct and design research and studies to support advanced product design.

  • Translate user needs to design inputs/specifications and produce advanced component and sub-system level designs.

  • Analyze and correct complex product design issues, using independent judgment.

  • Independently balance design tradeoffs while designing a component of the system.

Business Responsibilities:

  • Advance solutions by applying in-depth knowledge of customer needs, market and competitive offerings.

  • Apply detailed knowledge of clinical procedures to author design inputs.

  • Support Voice of Customer sessions internally and with clinicians.

  • Demonstrate developing financial acumen.

Med Device Compliance:

  • Be proficient with and mentor others in the usage of industry standards, including design requirements and test strategies per applicable regulations.

  • Lead creation and refinement of engineering documentation, such as the Design History file.

  • Follow and mentor others on R&D procedures like design controls and risk management, per the Quality Management System.

General Responsibilities:

  • Work cooperatively with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Clinical, Marketing, and Project Management to ensure project success as a leader on the team.

  • Identify and support the creation of or improvements to procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology.

  • Support and execute segments of complex product development to advance projects through the design /development/launch process.

  • Contribute to product development from concept through release.

  • Deliver high-quality results with passion, energy, and drive to meet business priorities.

  • Build relationships and influence across the engineering groups within the business.

Preferred Skills / Engineering tools:

  • Understands the advanced theory and methods of Battery Design / High-Density Electronics and can apply them independently.

  • Design and analysis of batteries including cell construction and chemistries to complete battery pack construction and testing. Circuits and methods include charging, testing (state of charge, state of health), and overcurrent/overtemperature devices.

  • Proficiency in specification, design and verification of battery charging and testing circuitry.

  • Expertise in battery management systems and related circuitry and algorithms, including state of health, state of charge, cell balancing, and charging.

  • Expertise in battery cell chemistries and construction techniques, especially for high-power / high-temperature applications.

  • Ability to Implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure the safety and efficacy of lithium-ion battery cells and packs.

  • Design and analysis of wired and wireless communication interfaces. Wired technologies include I2C, UART, RS-232, RS-485, CAN, SPI, differential SPI, and 1 wire. Wireless include BLE, RFID, WiFi and ZigBee.

  • Knowledge of wired interface protocols, including I2C, UART, RS-232, RS-485, CAN, SPI, LVDS, Ethernet, and DRAM interfaces.

  • Knowledge of wireless interface protocols, such as BLE, RFID, WiFi, and ZigBee, including standards, requirements, and testing protocols.

  • Ability to utilize simulation tools including Pspice and PCBA layout tools to implement robust and effective interface solutions.

  • Hands-on experience and consistent track record in electrical sensing system hardware engineering.

  • Strong background on multiple of these areas: sensor interface circuit/system architecture, analog/mixed signal design, simulation/modeling, electrical sensing modalities (voltage, current, impedance) or data processing and analysis.

  • Proficiency in system engineering, hardware architecture, ASIC definition and/or design or high-density electronics design from applications found in the consumer industry.

  • Proficiency in Python, Matlab, SPICE or similar simulation tools.

  • Experience in machine learning or firmware development is a plus.

  • Experience in prototype for physiological sensor signal acquisition and design & complete user study is a plus.

What You Will Need: (Requirements)

  • Bachelor's degree in EE or related discipline and 4+ years of work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced understanding of electrical components and manufacturing methods including common failure modes.

  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and test electrical designs.

  • Working knowledge of the electrical design process.

  • Proficiency in the use of CAD and/or other circuit design and analysis tools to design.

  • Knowledge of standard technologies used in industry.

  • Ability to interpret and analyze system drawings with basic Mechanical/Software/Electrical Interactions.

  • Knowledge of sub-system, system, and environmental interactions and how to design them.
