Summary:

The Production Manager is responsible for the overall management of production at the manufacturing plant.  Working under the Plant Manager’s supervision, the Production Manager leads several supervisors across multiple shifts.  The Production Manager’s key challenge is to maintain production within specific guidelines for safety, production efficiency, labor cost, product rework, waste amounts and control of on-hold product

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

  • Maintain employee safety by creating a safe and efficient work environment.

  • Plan, direct and coordinate the manufacturing of products in compliance with company goals and objectives.

  • Manage 5-6 Production Supervisors across 3 shifts ensuring policies and procedures are consistently applied across the team.

  • Actively participate in standardization, cost reduction and ERP system protocols.

  • Identify root causes for problem areas and develop cost-effective alternatives and improvements to production processes.

  • Maximize the efficiency/quality of production lines to achieve company KPI’s. 

  • Establish and control conditions of production in order to satisfy customer and quality specifications in a cost-efficient manner.

  • Participate in Customer calls, assist Production Supervisors in new item trials, and support R&D testing.

  • Investigate and analyze new procedures and processes.

  • Assist the Plant Manager in driving continuous improvement initiatives focusing on 5s and OEE improvements to get operations to industry 4.0 and smart manufacturing.

  • Cover planned vacations for Production Supervisors requiring some flexibility of schedule for working off shifts.

  • Mentor Supervisors through Continuous Improvement Projects.

  • Spend approximately 30% of time on the Production Floor, spending time on off shifts to validate Supervisor interaction with the team and ensure processes and procedures are consistently applied.

  • Maintain proper employment levels through selecting, interviewing, and training of personnel.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Manager Responsibilities:

Carries out Managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, operations management, engineering or related field OR 5-7 years Production Management experience

  • Experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred

  • Experience with an OEE systems in a manufacturing environment, driving ownership and improvement at all levels of production

  • Process improvement knowledge in a manufacturing environment (LEAN, 5S, Six Sigma, etc.) is a plus

  • High level of organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to manage multiple activities and use resources creatively

  • Experience working with a diverse workforce in a 24-hour production environment, fostering collaboration and communication across multiple shifts
