The Department of English invites applications for the 9-month, tenure-track faculty position of Assistant/Associate Professor of English-Technical & Professional Communication.

The primary responsibilities for this position include teaching undergraduate level courses, conducting research, student advising, student mentoring and recruitment, curriculum development, conducting scholarly activities and all other activities required for tenure. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, engaging in accreditation procedures, program assessment and service to the department, College and University as needed.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

A&T’s Department of English offers an undergraduate major and minor and two graduate degrees (M.A. and M.A.T.). Students working towards a B.A. in English take core classes and choose an area of concentration in African-American Literature, Creative Writing, Professional English, or Technical Writing. A B.A. is also offered in Secondary Education. The department teaches students how to think critically as well as how to understand and communicate in a diverse world.

The unit is one of six departments within the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, which also houses the Departments of Criminal Justice, History and Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, and Visual and Performing Arts. CAHSS enrolls more than 1,950 students and has more than 160 faculty members.

Requirements:

Candidate must have a Ph.D. in Technical and Professional Communication or related degree by the anticipated date of appointment as well as experience teaching in a college environment.

Preferred:

Ph.D. Degree in Technical and Professional

Communication with a specialization in one or more of the following areas:

  • Technical Communication & Rhetorical Studies

  • English Studies with specialized emphasis in Cultural Rhetoric & Technical Communication

  • Public Writing

  • Experience with teaching students how to use software such as Adobe Technical Communication Suite, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.

  • Experience with computer mediated communication and/or public writing.

  • Experience teaching in a college setting face to face and online using Blackboard and/or other learning management systems.
