North Carolina Agriculture & Technical State Unive Extension Assistant - Nutrition Training Coordinator in Greensboro, North Carolina

The Nutrition Training Coordinator is a member of the North Carolina Agriculture & Technology State University Cooperative Extension team. The University Program Specialist position will provide visionary leadership, training, and technical assistance for state-wide programming coordinated by two federally funded programs, EFNEP and SNAP -Ed, Try Health operated through NC A&T State University. The position will be committed 50% to EFNEP responsibilities and 50% to SNAP -Ed, Try Healthy responsibilities.

The position will ensure that local efforts in the counties align with both EFNEP and SNAP -Ed federal, state, and organizational guidelines and policies as part of the overall Cooperative Extension program. This is a multi-county, federally funded position. Participating counties may change depending on funding. The position will provide leadership and guidance to EFNEP Educators and Try Healthy Nutrition Educators. This position will be time-limited continuation is based on performance and funding.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

The Cooperative Extension Program at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an educational outreach organization within the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. Cooperative Extension at N.C. A&T provides researched-based educational information, programming and technical assistance to limited-resource audiences that address a diverse range of issues in four programmatic areas – Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, Community and Rural Development, and 4-H Youth Development. Together with its partners – North Carolina State University Cooperative Extension Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, state and county governments, a dynamic and resourceful system is formed. In addition to campus operations, The Cooperative Extension Program has professionally staffed offices in almost half of the 100 counties in North Carolina and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in family and consumer sciences, nutrition, or a related field from an accredited university, or a bachelor’s degree in these or related fields combined with 3 years of experience in Extension or working/teaching in diverse communities.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Skill in interacting effectively with diverse populations.

  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Office.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal abilities.

  • Capability to manage demands and prioritize tasks effectively.

  • Valid driver’s license and access to personal transportation.

  • Willingness to travel and work outside regular hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

  • Physical ability to lift and carry training supplies, publications, and equipment required for training programs.

Preferred:

The following abilities are demonstrated through experience:

  • Capacity to learn and teach nutrition and nutrition-related topics, including food safety, thrifty food shopping, food preparation, and physical activity in classroom settings (training will be provided).

  • Adaptability to changes in audience and program requirements.

  • Skill in networking with individuals and agency representatives, collaborating with others, and recruiting participants.

  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure environments while maintaining a professional and pleasant demeanor.

  • Adherence to operational policies and procedures.

  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

    This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
