LabCorp is currently seeking a Histotechnician to join their Histology team, located in Greenville, NC! Begin your career alongside a highly trained staff with the latest technology. Our services are performed with the utmost care, expertise, integrity and respect for the patient.

In this position, the Hisotechnician will be involved in the process of receipts of specimens from accessioning, description of specimens into permanent record including quantity, size, possible sectioning and inking. This position will also be involved in processing and maintenance of laboratory instruments. This position is also a grossing role for the Histology lab to include sectioning and embedding.

The schedule for this position will be: 2nd shift - Monday-Friday 12pm-8:30pm

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

• Full Histology support for the Gastroenterology East practice. This includes accessioning, grossing, embedding, microtomy and specials stains/IHC on GI specimens.

• Perform all technical grossing procedures required to process and submit specimens for microscopic review as per standard operating procedures under the indirect and direct supervision of pathologists

• Operate and maintain automated tissue processors, perform tissue embedding, Cryostat sectioning, operate and maintain tissue embedding units

• Operate and maintain H&E stainers, IHC stainers, special stains stainers and coverslipping units, perform manual coverslipping

• Provide recut preparation for microtomy and slide organization to perform case compilation for pathology

• Quality control completed cases

• Scan cases out of the lab to pathology, maintain log books, and be familiar with location of stored specimens

• Locate specimens and pulls from various departments as requested, paraffin block filing, lab document archiving, prepare and discard chemical reagents such as reagent alcohols

• Perform safety checks in lab

• Work with chemicals such as Xylene, Alcohols, Formaldehyde, etc.

• Handle minute patient tissue samples

Requirements:

• Associates degree (or equivalent course of study) or higher in Histotechnician program required. OR Associates degree (full course of study) or higher in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences and 1 of the following: a) 1 year of experience or training in histology within the past 5 years under the direction of board certified pathologist or b) successful completion of a course of training of at least 9 months in a histotechnician program required. OR High School Diploma with 5+ years of Histology experience required.

• Experience in microtomy and embedding is required.

• HT/HLT (ASCP) certificate is preferred but not required

• Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment

• Immunohistochemistry experience is a plus

• Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens

• Ability to accurately read all labels and documents

• Highly organized with a strong attention to detail

• Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols

• Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen
