Greenville Area Public Library Children's Programming Librarian - Full Time in Greenville, Pennsylvania

Job Description

Responsible for all programming for children from birth to sixth grade, in coordination with young adult programs, the Librarian plans and stages continuing and special programs, including summer programs, in person and/or virtually. The Librarian will also be in charge of outreach to our local schools, preschools, and daycares. They will promote programs through print, in-person, and social or other media. They will also maintain records for these programs to produce required statistics. Librarian will also supervise volunteers who assist with programs.

As our patrons are the most important part of our library, the Librarian will also work with others on staff to assist patrons at the circulation desks, in the stacks, and on the phone when not in a program.

This full-time position includes a regular evening and Saturday hours as the library is open Tuesday through Saturday.

 

Work Performed

  • Staffs circulation desk in the Children's room, issuing library cards, checking materials in and out, reserving books, collecting fines and answering the phone
  • Plans, promotes, and implements children's programming at the library and in the community
  • Reports statistics from programming and events to Director, Board, and State
  • Supervises program volunteers
  • Attends children's services-related workshops and meetings
  • Pursues continuing education opportunities to meet state requirements
  • Represents the Library on social media and in the community
  • Works to develop andmaintain community contacts and relationships
  • Recommends children's materials for purchase to support programming
  • Assists library patrons in use of library materials
  • Oversees appropriate use of the facility
  • Special duties as assigned

  • Knowledge of children's authors and literature
  • Knowledge of child development
  • Knowledge of appropriate social media
  • Ability to interact with children of various ages in an engaging and respectful manner
  • Ability to meet and relate to the public and staff in a positive and constructive manner
  • Ability to efficiently organize work
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Ability to carry books weighing 5-10 lbs

     

Education, Experience, and Training

  • College degree required, Library Science degree highly desirable
  • Experience providing programming to children
  • Experience in online/virtual programming preferred
  • Computer experience required

     

Must have or be able to obtain FBI Fingerprint Clearance, PA Criminal Record Check and PA Child Abuse History Clearance

 

Compensation

  • Starting pay is $16-18/hour depending on qualifications
