TEKsystems Electronics Technician (Vehicle Radio Installaiton) in Greenville, South Carolina
Job Overview:
As a Vehicle Radio Installer, you will be responsible for installing and maintaining radio and emergency-related equipment in various types of vehicles to support first responders like the Police department, Fire Department, and hospitals. This role involves working with electrical systems, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring all installations meet high standards of safety and functionality.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical Installation: Connect electrical fittings, drill holes, solder, and perform all physical tasks associated with modifying vehicles for emergency-related equipment.
Wiring and Cabling: Install electrical wiring, antenna systems, route antenna, data, and power cabling, and apply a variety of electrical connectors.
Vehicle Modification: Disassemble and reassemble trim, seats, lights, headliners, and carpets in motor vehicles, heavy equipment, and other types of equipment to properly route wiring and install equipment.
Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with equipment as necessary.
Diverse Installations: Complete installations for a range of vehicle makes and models, including sedans, SUVs, commercial trucks, buses, motorcycles, and ATVs.
Safety and Cleanliness: Maintain a safe and clean environment, including orderly tools.
Continuous Learning: Learn new products, skills, and techniques from colleagues and manufacturers.
Documentation: Complete all required paperwork and documentation.
Confidentiality: Maintain customer confidence by keeping service information confidential.
Qualifications:
Experience: Technical experience, or a combination of related education/experience.
Technical Skills: Basic knowledge and experience with the installation of systems/equipment within various vehicle types, such as 2-way radios, controls, lighting, cameras, antennas, GPS, sirens, and other relevant devices/public safety equipment.
Electrical Knowledge: Ability to read electrical and install diagrams, test/troubleshoot electrical and system issues, and understand DC voltage, resistance, and current.
Physical Skills: Ability to assemble/disassemble, properly route wiring, connect electrical fittings, install wiring harnesses, drill holes, solder, and perform physical tasks associated with vehicle upfits and installations.
Tool Proficiency: Ability to use basic tools and test equipment, including hand tools, power drills, multi-meters, and watt meters.
Preferred Experience:
Military Experience: Have you spent time as a 25U or similar position where you helped to outfit military vehicles with Electronics, IT, RF, or communications equipment? WE WANT YOU TO APPLY!
Electronics Troubleshooting: Experience working and troubleshooting electronics, installing/wiring radios, or light bars within vehicles.
Secondary Skills: Car stereo, network cabling, DAS installation, LMR, land mobile radio, wire wrap, and security.
Work Environment:
Physical Conditions: Work inside and outside in various weather conditions (heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid).
Physical Requirements: Frequently stand, walk, sit; use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear; use personal protective equipment; lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally ascend/descend a ladder; operate a motor vehicle.
Schedule: Monday – Friday, typically 7am-4pm.
