Job Description:

Manage and lead a group of engineers who Participates in the design of detail parts, assemblies, and installations for aircraft structures, mission equipment installations, and mechanical systems installations. Engineer applies basic engineering design and/or analytical theory with understanding of structural analysis for application to integrated system design. Engineer will be responsible for research, development of layouts, preparation of engineering drawings, and coordination of design activities with Tooling, Flight Sciences, Manufacturing, and Production to ensure that designs meet requirements at minimum cost. Designs will be accomplished using world-class, three-dimensional solid modeling CAD tools and work will be accomplished with senior-level design engineers. Mechanical design engineers have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of tasks and aircraft systems on various aircraft platforms.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for providing guidance, coaching, and training to employees.

  • Frequently responsible for managing large, complex project initiatives of strategic importance to the organization, involving large cross-functional teams.

  • Ensure department staffing levels support program requirements to include discipline/function and required experience level. Support recruiting of new college graduates as well as experienced candidates.

  • Address and evaluate promotions, merit, and career path of employees.

  • Manage department overhead and DOI ensuring budget performance and maximizes return on the investment.

  • Ensure proposals are vetted for accuracy in cost, scope, and schedule.

  • Ensure programs are accomplished on schedule and within budget while complying with process/procedures and program requirements.

  • Provides input into new products, processes, standards and/or operational plans that will have measurable impact on the achievement of overall function or business results.

  • Ensure department, airworthiness, customer, and company requirements are understood and met on all programs.

  • Capable of influencing a wide range of audiences and having demonstrated leadership skills to win support without direct reporting structure.

    Job Qualification Requirements:

    Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

  • Mechanical Engineering aircraft design related experience.

  • Outstanding communication (both verbally and written), negotiation, collaboration, time management, presentation, and organizational skills.

  • Familiarity with FAA (Part 23 and 25) and military aircraft airworthiness design approach, certification process, and requirements

  • Knowledge of manpower planning, milestone scheduling, and related financial management

  • Formulate strategic vision, define implementation plan of action to achieve success.

  • Capable of managing and working in an environment that is fast paced, demanding, with a focus on problem resolution and process improvement.

  • Experience running total lifecycle of programs including proposals, bids, planning, assessing/managing risk, and execution.

  • Understanding of aircraft systems

  • Understanding of various mission systems

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products to include, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship is required.

  • Interpersonal skills: Engaging communicator, strong collaboration, patience, and open minded

  • Management and/or Graduate Degree

  • Task Lead experience, especially on large prototype programs

  • Track record of building successful teams
