Greenwich Country Day School Math Fellow (Grades 9-12) in Greenwich, Connecticut

The original Old Church Road campus is home to grades N-8. The High School, established in 2019, is located less than two miles away on Stanwich Road. Greenwich Country Day School seeks a Math Fellow, Grades 9-12 to start in August 2025 . This is a two-year position. The Math fellow will be part of a larger cohort of new teachers and will assist the Math Program Lead in facilitating and maintaining the support space of the math lab and with creating and facilitating small support groups of Geometry and Algebra II students in partnership with the math faculty. 

Depending on previous experiences, the fellow will either teach one section of core Geometry or core Algebra II, or they will be assigned to assist in one or two classes of Algebra II as a support specialist working closely with one of our teachers. If assisting, the fellow will be coached to develop and design lessons for the classes and present them semi-regularly throughout the second semester. If significant progress is being made, then the fellow may be asked to design and implement a full unit of instruction and assessment in semester two.

The ideal candidate will be willing to assist the program lead and mentoring teacher with both support and administrative tasks, for in doing so, the fellow will learn both the teaching and administrative sides of being a teacher. In year two of the program, the fellow may be asked to teach 2 sections of Core Algebra II or Core Geometry.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Mentored instructional responsibility

  • Assist with staffing our Math Lab 

  • Collaboration with mentor teachers to provide instruction

  • Collaboration with advisors, learning specialist teachers, and school psychologists to understand and support individual students’ learning needs

  • Participation in the oversight of the progress of each child in the subject area

  • Participation in the  assessment of all student's progress in both written and verbal reports

  • Communication with parents

  • Substitute teaching for the math program

  • Help proctor assessments outside of the classroom for students with testing accommodations, retests, or make-ups

  • Supervision of students during recess, lunch, arrival, and dismissal as requested by the Division Head

  • Significant participation in the life of the school, including coaching, advising clubs, etc. 

    Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree 

  • Entrepreneurial mindset and approach to building a program beyond the current scope

  • A passion for learning and the ability to motivate and inspire students

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Commitment to building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive school community

  • Willingness to take on multiple roles within the division

  • Personal traits appropriate for nurturing the growth of students - must be energetic, creative, flexible, patient, and have an inexhaustible sense of humor
