Pfizer Laboratory Support Manager in Groton, Connecticut

What You Will Achieve

The Laboratory Support Manager is responsible for assisting the daily, weekly and cyclic laboratory functions of the Groton Clinical Biomarker Technologies group. This role works closely with scientists, sample management, lab heads, and cross-departmental teams assisting in the maintenance and remedying of day-to-day laboratory operations including laboratory compliance, safety, finance, organization, space planning, asset management, routine operating functions, report authoring/QC that support the flow cytometry, ligand binding, Olink, mass spectrometry and PGx labs. This individual maintains compliance with and supports Pfizer and departmental SOPs, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) standards, GCP/CLIA and other company policies and best practices while instilling Pfizer values.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Monitors, notifies responsible parties, and enforces laboratory compliance items (e.g., Hazardous waste streams, unused items, out of date reagents, pickup/disposal of Highly Acutely Toxic (HAT) chemicals, personal protective equipment (PPE), while following best practices and company policies.

  • Participates on the Groton Chemical safety team, periodically reviews Chemical Hygiene Plan, shares monthly EHS Communications.

  • Reports and rectifies Near-Miss events.

  • Performs quarterly laboratory inspections and works with labs to update processes as needed, works with scientists and remedies findings as needed.

  • Serves as a co-lead of the compliance team through meeting coordination and organization.

  • Reviews and authors Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as needed.

  • Life cycle management of laboratory equipment through internal and external contacts (planning, purchasing, installation, inventorying, periodic maintenance and calibration (PM/CAL), moves, and decommissioning.

  • Coordinates and manages laboratory renovations and space planning projects with Facilities Project teams.

  • Cordinates communications and processes between laboratory staff and EHS, asset managment, facilities, Get Service, vendors, Shipping and Receiving, Finance, Add/Change/Delete (ACD) processes and other activites related to lab functions (Pipette calibration cycles, maintence logs and etc.).

  • Enacts cost savings through quote negotiation, consolidation of consumable storage, and quarterly PO reports.

  • Tracking, budgeting, forecasting and reporting of capital, servicing, and consumable finances.

  • Troubleshooting of Purchase Order and Invoice discrepancies.

  • Coordinates EHS-mandated periodic organization of CBT laboratory spaces.

  • Works collaboratively and as back up to sample management assisting in freezer/refrigerator clutter, defrost cycles, sample relocations, and sample courier arrivals as needed.

  • Reviews and authors Bioanalytical Plans/Reports (BAP/BAR), Sample Analysis Plans and Method Validation Reports.

Qualifications

Must Have

  • BA/BS in Science with 3 to 4 years of experience OR master's in science and between 1 to 3 years of experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize multiple unrelated activities.

  • Knowledge and experience working in a laboratory.

  • Experience authoring and QC'ing clinical reports.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Familiar with SAP, Ariba, GDMS, EAMS (Enterprise Asset Management System), Kofax, MDG-S (Master Data Governance-Suipplier), Enablon, GetService, and POD CERT (Purchase on Demand Capital Equipment Request Tracker) systems

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, good communication skills, attention to detail.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $74,900.00 to $124,800.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 7.5% of the base salary.
