Waste Connections Operator in Grovedale, Alberta

R360 Canada, an affiliate of Waste Connections, offers a variety of services to clients in the energy, environmental and industrial sectors. These services are delivered via our network of facilities, along with our specialized equipment and assets. We are equipped to process, recover, recycle and dispose of waste and other materials safely and cost-effectively for our customers.

We are currently looking for an Operator at our South Wapiti facility approximately 22km south of Grande Prairie. This position will be shift work, working 7 days on, 7 days off consisting of 12 hour shifts. These rotations include dayshifts and nightshifts. This position does not provide camp/accommodations or transportation.

Job Purpose

The Operator position is responsible for the day-to-day safe and customer service oriented operations of waste treatment, oil treatment and water injection. The Operator will be in constant contact with customers and therefore, must demonstrate excellent communications skills and a high level of customer service. As this is a safety-sensitive role and due to the nature of working conditions, the Operator is required to be mentally and physically fit to in order to successfully perform the tasks and responsibilities of this role.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

• Plant safety (i.e. ensuring that each operation is following Standard Operating Procedures and safety work procedures, SWP permitting, Hazard Assessments and iTrak items are entered in a timely manner)

• Responsible for truck unloading, oil emulsion and water & vac trucks (paper trail)

• Responsible for oil treating with the treater, cooler or tank treating

• Responsible for proper equipment operation and preventative maintenance

• Participating in waste processing, waste and mud tank operation, shaker & centrifuge operations and solids treating

• Managing ongoing water injection, filter changing and pump maintenance

• Conducting boiler operations, testing and steam system operations

• Conducting daily, weekly and monthly plant checks

• Performing general cleaning duties throughout the day

Qualifications/Competencies

The individual in this role will have:

• A High School Diploma, General Education Diploma or equivalent

• A valid and acceptable Driver’s license and successful completion of Pre-employment testing

• A minimum of 3 months experience in operations at an FST facility, treaters, boilers, shaker, centrifuge and pumps

• A minimum of 1-year experience processing waste on rigs

• A minimum of 1-year operation experience for boiler and oil treating or water injection

• Has spent a minimum of 3 months as an Operator Trainee at an FST plant

• Special training in boiler, treater, shaker/centrifuge, pumps (all) and loader

• Valid and current safety tickets as per the Training and Certification Matrix

• A strong attention to detail, communication skills and a profound ability to work long hours in a mentally and physically demanding work environment

• A proven ability to work well under a frequent amount of supervision

• Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills
