Commander, Navy Installations FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTOR in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba
Summary You will serve as a FIRE PROTECTION INSPECTOR in the Fire Prevention Division, Fire Department of NAVSTA GTMO. Responsibilities You will inspect fire protection systems (e.g., alarm system, fire suppression system) to maintain system readiness. You will inspect and test fire suppression systems. You will advise on acceptable design of code deficiencies (e.g., facilities layouts, construction, building contents, location of fire protection systems, fire alarm system operations, fire suppression systems operations. You will evaluate a fire prevention or fire protection program performance against approved firefighter program plans, schedules, or forecasts. You will evaluate and perform minor maintenance and repair to fire prevention or protection systems and equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Administer guidance on fire protection and system safety engineering standards and regulations to ensure fire safety codes are followed; 2)Test newly installed fire protection systems and equipment to verify compliance with building codes and regulations; 3) Perform a fire protection inspection of abuilding or storage facility to identify actual or potential fire hazards or fire safety deficiencies; and 4) Perform specialized fire inspections of controversial areas (e.g.,industrial facilities, aircraft hangars, fuel storage facilities). CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED: incumbent is required to use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management. The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license. Physical Demands: The work requires considerable walking, climbing, bending, lifting, and working in various extreme weather conditions. It requires the physical ability to perform all assigned duties, including driving government vehicles. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. Work Environment: Conducting fire safety inspections can require incumbent to enter confined or enclosed spaces for providing evaluation and preparation for issuing Hazardous Operations Permits. This position requires the employee to work under adverse environmental conditions and falls under the respiratory protection program and hearing conservation program. The work can require use of respiratory protective devices such as self contained breathing apparatus and lifelines. Incumbent is requires to wear personal protective equipment such as safety helmet, safety glasses/goggles, safety shoes, and hearing protection. Employee is required to be certified at the DoD Firefighter Certification Level as minimum: Fire Instructor I Fire Inspector II These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems. This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision. Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.
