WestRock Company Quality Safety Tech in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico

Opportunity: Responsible for all activities assigned within the manufacturing facility and will ensure that facility is in compliance with OSHA regulations and WestRock safety policies/guidelines. Will assist the Quality, Safety and Environmental Manager in the implementation of environmental, quality, health and safety programs.

How will you impact WestRock:

  • Assist with all safety program requirements and maintaining supporting documentation.

  • Responsible for scheduling annual hearing tests, forklift driver’s physical exams.

  • Coordinate appointments with occupational doctor and assist when needed keeping confidentiality.

  • Coordinate with Purchasing to order infirmary or first aid supplies, heat-prevention items during extreme hot weather, process the annual safety eyewear renewal agreements.

  • Assist the Safety Manager, Plant Manager and Production team leaders during incident investigation keeping confidentiality.

  • Provide safety onboarding training for new hires, safety orientation for visitors and annual refresher training for all employees and for employees returning from an absence of ninety days or more within the manufacturing facility, assuring the standard format is followed.

  • Proactively assist in keeping safety and quality bulletin boards up to date.

  • As directed, assist with safety issues, concerns, and inspections that are safety related.

  • Assist in reviewing, assigning, monitoring and follow ups until completion safety concerns, first aid, near misses.

  • As member of the Safety and Quality committee will be responsible for coordinating meetings, preparing the agenda, keep track of action items and participate in each meeting.

  • Assist in data entry in various reporting systems.

  • Assist in Risk Assessment Management System (Benchmark GenSuite) updating and entering safety information for injuries, workers comp and audits.

  • Assist in maintaining permits, required inspections, audits, monitoring and application for renewal or modifications for local permits, such as air permit, stormwater, among others.

  • Maintain SPCC plan and training records.

  • Maintain WestRock's hierarchy of priorities for safety, quality, cost, and productivity.

  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures while upholding WestRock's values of integrity, respect, accountability, and excellence.

  • Assist HR in coordinating employee-related events.

  • Perform additional duties as may be assigned by management.

  • Maintain and improve our number one safety priority.

  • Proactively participate with continuous improvement initiatives, with the goal of meeting and/or exceeding production, quality, and cost targets.

  • Maintain a proactive, customer-centric approach to productivity.

What you need to succeed:

  • Minimum high school diploma, associate’s degree in business preferred.

  • Previous work experience in manufacturing is preferred.

  • OSHA certification preferred.

  • Bilingual English and Spanish required.

  • Microsoft Office skills required, such as Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Word, Excel.

  • Effective at multi-tasking and managing multiple priorities.

  • Ability to read and understand work instructions, procedures, or assembly manuals in Spanish and preferably also in English.

  • Ability to communicate in writing with basic information during the preparation of simple correspondence or standard reports.

  • Ability to apply basic arithmetic concepts, such as: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

  • Ability to solve problems constructively, maintain positive and proactive behaviors, and maintain a safe work environment.

  • Team building skills.

  • Available to work overtime if needed.
