Job Description:
Western Colorado University invites applications for the full-time position of Academic and Admissions Advisor in the Education Department. This position will advise a caseload of approximately 250 diverse teacher and principal candidates to ensure successful progress toward achieving their Colorado licensure and undergraduate or graduate degree. The Academic and Admissions Advisor in Education reports to the Chair of the Education Department and works collaboratively with a network of faculty, advisors, and staff within the Education Department and Western Colorado University as a whole. This position has two main areas of responsibility: student advising and admissions. The Academic and Admissions Advisor in Education will assist students through the completion of their academic plan, provide success initiatives that help to retain high-quality students, connect them to campus services and resources, and provide opportunities for successful transition into employment. This position demonstrates a commitment to the principles of inclusivity by modeling caring, people-centered relationships.

Responsibilities:
Advising:
Provide comprehensive and supportive advising to prospective, current, and transfer students based on individual needs. Track and monitor student success and satisfactory academic progress toward curricular completion/graduation, including students' probation/suspension status, registration, and exceptions to policy requests. Advise students before critical deadlines to discuss degree requirements, student interests, and University resources that provide assistance. Maintain thorough, accurate, pertinent electronic documentation of student records within FERPA guidelines and of individual advising sessions to gather feedback regarding overall program experience and improve advising experiences. Become knowledgeable of the different pathways/programs into teaching and educational leadership: for example, 3+2 accelerated degrees, minors, emphases, and added endorsements.
Admissions:
Support recruitment efforts by taking appointments, greeting visitors, and assisting with general inquiries via phone and e-mail. Guide and monitor prospective student applications through the online admission processes; review and process admissions documents. Communicate with students about available funding sources for future teachers and educational leaders. Work with public schools in Colorado, the United States, and across the globe to secure student teaching residencies for licensure students (approximately 100 per year).
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (education, psychology, counseling, student affairs, or another related field).
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Experience collaborating with students, faculty and staff, families, and or community members.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
Academic advising experience.
Experience working in higher education and/or in K-12 schools, including working with diverse populations.
Demonstrated ability to navigate and prioritize a wide variety of tasks, following institutional and departmental procedures with close attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to work well within a team with a high level of professionalism.
Proficiency in Customer Relationship Management Software (e.g., Banner, WorkDay).
Compensation:
The annual salary range is $48,000-52,000 (depending on experience and qualifications) and the position is FLSA exempt. This position is eligible for an excellent benefits package including health and dental insurance plans with low co-pays, generous paid time off, a shared contribution retirement plan, and, following 12 months of employment, tuition benefits. This is a 12-month, primarily on-campus, in-person position.
