Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center Schools High School Special Education Teacher in Guthrie Center, Iowa

We are seeking a High School Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to meeting the unique needs of students with disabilities and ensuring their academic, social, and emotional growth. As a Special Education Teacher, you will collaborate with other educators, administrators, and support staff to create and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's specific needs. Your role will involve providing instruction, support, and accommodations to help students succeed in a high school setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities, in collaboration with parents/guardians, general education teachers, and other support staff.

  2. Provide direct instruction to students in various subjects, adapting teaching methods and materials to meet individual learning styles and needs.

  3. Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued, respected, and motivated to learn.

  4. Assess student progress regularly and adjust instructional strategies accordingly to ensure academic growth and mastery of learning objectives.

  5. Collaborate with general education teachers to modify curriculum and assignments as needed to accommodate students with disabilities.

  6. Utilize assistive technology and other resources to enhance learning opportunities and accessibility for students with special needs.

  7. Foster positive relationships with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues through effective communication and collaboration.

  8. Provide guidance and support to students in developing essential life skills, independence, and self-advocacy abilities.

  9. Monitor and track student behavior, implementing behavior management strategies and interventions as necessary to promote a positive learning environment.

  10. Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, parent conferences, and other collaborative meetings to review student progress and plan for future goals.

  11. Stay current on best practices, research, and legal requirements related to special education, continuously seeking professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.

  12. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student progress, IEP goals, and services provided, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (Master's degree preferred).

  • Valid teaching license/certification in Special Education (or eligible for licensure).

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to differentiate instruction and tailor teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs.

  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with special needs.

  • Proficiency in using technology and assistive devices to enhance learning outcomes.

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and growth in the field of special education.

  • The school district is willing to assist in the completion of required classes/certification to be able to teach special education
