Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Aquatic Biologist 1 (Limited Term) in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 4436775 THE POSITION The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking someone who is dedicated to protecting the health and safety of Pennsylvania's citizens and environment. Your role will entail assisting in the formulation of protocols and methods for assessing and collecting surface water data. DESCRIPTION OF WORK As an Aquatic Biologist 1, your responsibilities will involve collecting various types of data from surface water in accordance with Pennsylvania protocols. This includes maintaining equipment, recording field readings, processing samples, and documenting all necessary information for analysis. Additionally, you will be involved in laboratory work, such as processing water samples and analyzing macroinvertebrate samples. You will also be responsible for entering data, assisting in creating water quality reports, conducting statistical analyses, and developing geographic information system maps. Furthermore, you will be involved in maintaining equipment and vehicles used for water quality assessments.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Limited term, full-time employment. The limited term is 6 to 9 months. Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. This position requires overnight travel to complete field work. You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) full-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor's degree with a major in a biological science, natural science, environmental science, or natural resource management, including or supplemented by six college credits in freshwater aquatic biology, aquatic ecology, aquatic botany, water pollution biology, entomology, limnology, or closely related aquatic science coursework; or An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes six college credits in freshwater aquatic biology, aquatic ecology, aquatic botany, water pollution biology, entomology, limnology, or closely related aquatic science coursework. Special Requirement: This position requires possession of an active motor vehicle license.
