Reference #: 4447156 THE POSITION The Pennsylvania State Police is currently on the lookout for a highly skilled Firearms Background Specialist 2 to join their team in Dauphin County. Your determinations will be based on the operational guidelines set forth by the Pennsylvania Instant Check System (PICS). DESCRIPTION OF WORK The role of this position involves serving as an operator for the Pennsylvania Instant Check System, where independent decisions are made regarding the approval or disapproval of firearm purchases or license to carry applications. This includes conducting PICS Background Check Requests and processing Evidence Returns in accordance with AR 3-3. One of the key responsibilities is to verify the identity of the applicant by cross-referencing their criminal history record, protection from abuse (PFA) order, or mental health record. Additionally, the operator must assess whether the applicant is wanted based on the information provided. In cases where an applicant is wanted, the operator follows specific procedures for apprehension, such as verifying the warrant with the issuing agency and coordinating with local law enforcement. Finally, the operator must apply their knowledge of current and former state and federal laws to determine the approval or disapproval of a purchase or license to carry.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 37.5-hour work week Work hours are various 7.5 hour shifts including weekends and holidays. Each shift comes with a 30-minute lunch. Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $44,010.00 (before taxes). One year as a Legal Assistant 1; or Four years of responsible clerical, investigative or enforcement work including one year of legal clerical support experience; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Additional Requirements: All positions require the ability to obtain and maintain an active Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Police within the probationary period and maintain the same for the duration of employment in this job.
