Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Keystone Internship - State Museum of Pennsylvania (College) in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

The provides opportunities to pursue your professional growth and contribute to sharing Pennsylvania's rich heritage with the public. Keystone Internship will be between 225-300 hours and last 10 weeks between May 13, 2024 and August 23, 2024.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK As an Archaeology intern, you will be provided an opportunity to do the following: Gain an understanding of professional museum practices and procedures. Gain an understanding of how to record and update archaeological site mapping data into the PA-SHARE geographic information platform. Develop proficiencies in identifying, recording, and photographing archaeological artifacts. Develop skills for the permanent curation of collections in a museum setting. Work hands-on with important archaeological collections. Assist with educational programs and other public outreach conducted by the Section of Archaeology.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Internship (temporary part-time) Work hours are flexible and will be finalized between selected interns and their supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements: You must be currently enrolled, or will be enrolled in a college or university full-time in an undergraduate or graduate program by the start of the internship. You must be in good academic standing (2.5 GPA or higher). Additional Requirements: You must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire. You must currently be enrolled, or will be enrolled at a college or university undergraduate or graduate program for the Summer 2024 or Fall 2024 academic term by the start of the internship. You must be working toward a degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Museum Studies, or related field. You must be proficient in the use of Microsoft software including Excel, Word, and Outlook. You must be able to lift and move up to 30lbs. You must be able to work in or commute to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. You must be able to perform essential job functions. Preferred Qualifications (not required): Possess work, academic, or volunteer experience. Possess lab experience with artifact identification from the Mid-Atlantic or Eastern United States. Legal Requirement: This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
