DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Legal Assistant 1, you will be responsible for varied administrative and legal clerical support.  This work includes, but is not limited to, typing, formatting, proofreading, finalizing briefs and pleadings, and preparing legal documents' table of contents, table of citations and indices.  You will also be responsible for preparing travel/training approval forms, researching and compiling cost estimates thereto, making travel/training arrangements through the Commonwealth's online system, and preparing travel expense reimbursements.  You may perform other clerical support duties such as handling mail, answering the telephone, faxing, using a copy machine, maintaining a calendar, and managing office equipment.  In addition to clerical duties, Legal Assistants may also act as a courier to make filings and serve documents within the downtown Harrisburg area.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment

Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.

Telework: Part-time work from home (telework) may be a potential feature of this position.  You will be required to report to the headquarters worksite daily, unless eligibility requirements have been met and telework has been approved.  Management may discontinue any telework arrangement at any time, for any reason.  In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection.  If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

To be eligible to participate in telework, your alternate (telework) worksite must be located within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and within reasonable travel distance to Harrisburg.  Please direct all questions regarding reasonable distance and the type of available telework to the PUC Human Resource Office at ra-puchr@pa.gov or 717.787.8714.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

Three years of responsible clerical, enforcement or investigative work; or

An equivalent combination of experience and training.
