Reference #: 4512476 THE POSITION The District 8-0 of the Department of Transportation is currently seeking skilled Transportation Construction Inspectors to join our team. As an inspector, you will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections of materials and workmanship on highway construction projects. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The responsibilities of this role include overseeing various aspects of transportation construction projects. This involves assisting in verifying grades, elevations, structure stake-out, and roadway stake-out in collaboration with contractors and surveyors. Additionally, the position entails inspecting the placement of various materials like cement concrete, bituminous concrete, and drainage materials to ensure compliance with project specifications. The role also involves conducting compaction testing using visual non-movement methods on sub-surface strata, soils, and aggregates, among other materials. Furthermore, effective communication is crucial as the individual will interact with Department staff, federal, state, and local agencies, legislators, and the public to ensure project administration is carried out efficiently.

Other duties include documenting project details, performing calculations, estimating quantities and costs, resolving field issues, and preparing inspection reports manually or electronically. The position also requires compiling photographs, sketches, and inspection review summaries, as well as reviewing work completed by contractors and participating in inspection teams. Moreover, the individual will be responsible for generating necessary reports for project records, interpreting results to monitor progress and schedules, and tracking material quantities and testing methods. Drawing sketches, noting plan changes, and maintaining inspection progress and quality control reports are also part of the job description. Ultimately, the role ensures that projects adhere to all regulations, policies, and procedures while being completed in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. The position will be reporting to various projects sites within Franklin County, however limited travel to District 8-0 at 2140 Herr Street may be required. Travel reimbursement may be possible. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year as an Engineering Technician (commonwealth title); or Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (commonwealth titles); or Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirement: This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C D iver's License or equivalent. Other Requirements: You must meet the PA residency requirement.
