Eversource Energy Associate Engineer - Transmission System Planning (Hybrid) in Hartford, Connecticut
Role and Scope of Position:
Associate Engineer in Transmission System Planningassistsintransmissionsystemimpactstudies and system solutions developmentstudy files, internal project approvaldocument for proposed system changesand/or upgrades.The roleprovides supportforpower systemstudy model developmentandmaintenance andperformstechnical analysis under guidance.Typical reliability studies include analyses of power flow, stability,electromagnetic transient,and short circuit.The candidate applying for this position is expected to haveentrylevel understanding of Power Systems and Engineering Design (e.g.modeling, symmetrical components).
*Essential Functions: *
Supportsdevelopment and maintenance of the system models for transmission studiesunder guidance of more senior Engineers.This includes:
Collection and review of the forecast loads to be included in the model
Collection, modification, and review of a variety of electric system parametersincludingequipment ratings, impedances, contingency sets,protectionand control parameters, as well as systemtopology.
Collection, modification, and review ofpower systemcomponentmodeling for steady state, stability, short circuit, and EMT analyses
Assistswithtransmission system impact studies in the entire Eversource service territories.This includes:
Preparationofstudy scopesbased on determined study assumptions
Applicationof corporate planning standards in conjunction with any other applicable NERC, NPCC, and ISO-NE reliability standards and criteria
Supporting solutions developmentto mitigateidentifiedsignificant adverse impactsby testingsolution alternatives as directed
Providing support to more senior Engineerswithin theSystem Planning organization
Interfacing with variousinternalgroupswithinEversource,and externalentitiessuch asISO-NE staff
Determination of system needs and corresponding solutions.Documentation ofstudy resultsin study reports
Other supporting tasks include:
Study process automationfor routineswith transmission analysis tools.
Clearly and effectively communicates the results of analyses both verbally and in writing
Assistswith development of trainingmodules
Performs an emergent storm assignment as needed during times of inclement weather or adverse system conditions
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
Knowledgewith power system transmission analysis tools such as PSSE, TARA, ASPEN, PSCAD,or other similar analysis softwarepreferred.
Knowledge of electrical theory as applied to planning an electric power supplysystem
Good written and oral communication skills, including formal presentation.

Ability to achieve desired results by settinghigh standardsfor self and others, and accepts responsibility for outcomes
Education
- Baccalaureate degree inElectrical Engineeringrequired-Electric Power Systems preferred.
Experience :
- Relevant experienceinplanning, design, and/or operations related to transmissionlines, substation facilities,with knowledge of power system planning is preferred
