The Hartford Director of Marketing - Campaign Strategist in Hartford, Connecticut

The Director of Marketing, Campaign Strategist takes the lead with a Line of Business client to ensure business objectives are translated into effective broad media campaigns. In addition, the Director partners with an Account Executive to effectively manage client requests within the Integrated Marketing team (Content, TheHartford.com, email, social, paid search, organic search, creative services, MarTech, and traffic). The Director provides strategic marketing guidance to their client and provides regular reporting. They are responsible for broad media results. This role will have a hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in our Hartford CT, Home Office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

Responsibilities:

  • Primary source to partner with line of business clients to develop annual/ad hoc integrated audience/media/creative strategies that advance business brand and/or performance objectives.

  • Works with line of business and media agency/partners to translate audience/targeting strategy into media plan.

  • Liaises directly with brand media publishers to develop and maintain strategic partnerships for the brand.

  • Manages media budget for integrated campaigns, including approving and reconciling invoices within billing system, and overseeing pacing of media spend against approved budgets to ensure delivery of media impressions/dollars to budget goals.

  • Reports on media progress against goals to clients.

  • Primary source to partner with internal and external resources to guide positioning, value prop, and creative development/production for integrated campaigns, develops or partners to develop creative briefs.

  • Creates actionable project timelines for major media plan components, partnering with internal and external teams to ensure alignment on all deadlines and deliverables; tracks project progress against that timeline and ensures clear communication with all stakeholders throughout campaign management process.

  • Partners with internal and external resources to be on site for large, integrated productions to ensure compliance with briefs, legal, business nuances, and overall objectives.

  • Partners with internal and external resources to drive customer research required for messaging, creative development for integrated campaigns.

  • Partners with internal and external resources to ensure creative assets are tagged, formatted, cleared, and ready for trafficking for integrated campaigns. Populates trafficking workbooks and manages high volume of creative assets that need to be activated with accuracy within paid media placements.

  • As needed, ensures media/local activations are properly overseen and executed; engages with client teams to drive participation from line of business teams (e.g. sales, agents) for integrated campaigns.

  • Coordinates annual client planning and resource forecasting.

  • Coordinates half-year planning reviews and progress against goals

  • Develops deep understanding of client business practices, products, distribution systems/partners, and internal subject matter experts.

  • Guides execution of owned, paid and earned content strategy leveraging publishers and agile methodologies.

  • Pairs with Account Manager to ensure alignment of Integrated Marketing team priorities and client business objectives.

  • Serves as primary escalation for challenging client work submissions to IM team (except creative services), priority misalignment

  • Serves as the client's primary point of contact for work and questions into the Integrated Marketing team.

  • Coordinates monthly reviews with client teams on status, burn rate, and planned work on behalf of Integrated Marketing team

  • Regularly reviews production and performance dashboards with Integrated Marketing teams and clients.

  • Delivers media/competitor intelligence for clients in partnership with internal/external teams. Informs on emerging digital platforms, new media publishers, audience targeting and data privacy regulation, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of eight years of Digital Marketing experience including at least three years of media buying/planning experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years managing outside resources, including creative and media agencies and managing client relationships.

  • Strong persuasive communication and presentation skills; ability to gain consensus through influence and pivot when warranted. Proven analytical proficiency with an ability to draw and effectively articulate insights to leadership.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment while handling multiple projects and priorities. Flexible and able to pivot quickly when priorities changes all while maintaining impeccable follow-through.

  • Self-starter with the ability to quickly learn on your own and determine the best path to success, deriving insights from various sources and experts to understand new concepts, never deterred by new challenge.

  • Strong desire to learn and improve every day, taking personal pride in wins for the team. Does not get disappointed with failures rather, lets them serve to push you harder to search for new and innovative ways to achieve goals.

  • Naturally curious individual that runs towards unfamiliar concepts rather than shying away. Ability to recognize assumptions and question them, then experiments, tests and fails. Immediately iterates and keep trying until success is achieved.

  • Ability to plan and manage budgets.

  • Ideal candidate will be able to rapidly develop a keen understanding for businesses supported in order to gain the trust needed to successfully consult on campaign strategy and effective tactics.

  • Innovative thinker that continuously seeks and drives new ideas and better ways of accomplishing tasks and delivers best practices.

  • Undergraduate degree required.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$127,200 - $190,800
