    The State of Connecticut (http://ct.gov/) , Department of Revenue Services ( DRS (http://ct.gov/DRS) ) is recruiting for a Supervising Accountant (https://www.jobapscloud.com/CT/specs/classspecdisplay.asp?ClassNumber=6332AR&R1=undefined&R3=undefined) . This opportunity is open to current State of Connecticut employees only.

    Position Highlights

  • This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position on first shift. Schedule is Monday-Friday from 8:00am-4:30pm.

  • This position is located in Hartford. Hybrid opportunities will be available.

  • Main responsibilities of this position include:

  • Assisting in the direction of staff and operation of fiscal management functions, within the Budget, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, Payroll and Facilities Units;

  • Acting as a liaison internally and externally within the State, evaluates staff, formulates goals and objectives, develops policy, budget preparation and management, accounting and financial reporting;

  • Assisting the Chief of Fiscal/Administrative Services 2 and the Fiscal Administrative Manager 1 in determining affordability of hiring staff and maintaining staffing levels;

  • Supervision of the Budget, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, Payroll and Facilities Units;

  • Supervising the completion of the annual GAAP report.

    PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

    In a state agency this class is accountable for supervising staff engaged in accounting.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    Main responsibilities of this position include:

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Considerable knowledge of

  • relevant agency policies and procedures;

  • relevant state and federal laws, statutes and regulations;

  • professional accounting principles and practices;

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

    Eight (8) years of experience in accounting or auditing.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

    One (1) year of the General Experience must have been performing the most complex accounting functions OR acting in a lead or consultative capacity at the level of an Associate Accountant or Associate Accounts Examiner.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED

  • College training in accounting or a closely related field may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree

  • A Master's degree in accounting may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.

  • Certification as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor may be substituted for one (1) additional year of the General Experience.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, specifically with PivotTables, Filtering, Sorting and other Excel functions;

  • Experience with GAAP reporting;

  • Experience with Budget projections and reporting;

  • Experience with creating, editing and running Financial Reports;

  • Experience with CORE-CT Financial or other PeopleSoft Software;

  • Experience with creating, paying and maintaining vouchers, invoices, credit cards and receipts;

  • Experience with QuickBooks and petty cash reconciliations;

  • Experience with overseeing and supervising fiscal/accounting staff.
