CREC Academy of the Arts Technical Director / Lighting Technician Teacher

Technical Director. The Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts Half-Day Program - an Arts Magnet High School program managed by the Capitol Region Education Council in Hartford, CT - seeks a Technical Director. Primary responsibilities include: classroom and lab instruction for high school students in theater de sign and production as well as production support for Arts Academy Theater, Music, and Dance presentations. TD develops technical designs, budgets, and construction schedules for Arts Academy productions; specifies and orders materials, tracks expenditures; builds and installs scenery and lighting and supervises construction and installation of sets by students, freelance labor, supports operations of Theater of the Performing Arts for both internal and external clients. Experience in Lighting Design/operation is highly desirable. Ten-month, full-time position available immediately. Opportunity for additional compensation supporting venue rentals.

Qualifications: BA/BFA is required with preference given to applicants with educational/professional credentials in theater design and production. Experience in professional or educational theater required. A strong desire to work with High School Students is essential. Applicants should have design and fabrication skills and experience working with wood, metal, plastics, and fabric. A working knowledge of CAD is essential. A clear understanding of, and experience with, the safe operation of counterweight rigging systems is required. Lighting design/programming/operation and Master Electrician a significant plus. Current valid drivers license. Formal State of Connecticut teaching certification is not a requirement for this position.
