Job Summary
Provide leadership, direct and develop an effective team of custodial personnel in the care, cleaning, and general maintenance of the buildings and equipment that are assigned, ensuring the completion of all assigned tasks including football, baseball, work orders, supply orders, etc..
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Performs manual cleaning of the assigned building(s). Uses proper methods and materials in cleaning and care for the building area and equipment, participates in the care, cleaning, and general housekeeping of the buildings that are assigned, completing all tasks including football, baseball, work orders, etc. as assigned.
Provides leadership and instruction to small groups of custodians by leading or directing custodial activities during scheduled work periods (including weekends), or when performing special cleaning projects, such as Football, Basketball, Baseball, and other events that are assigned (per work orders) by the supervisor.
Makes work assignments in accordance with predetermined schedules, reviews the work of employees, assists in training of new personnel, assists in transport of custodians to work assignments, makes supply orders and deliveries, and completes labor tracking records.
Must be able to show knowledge of and train employees on the following types of equipment: commercial vacuum cleaners (uprights and backpack vacuums), wet/dry vac, backpack blower, auto scrubbers, pressure washer, shower machine, and carpet machines.
Conducts inspection of buildings and grounds in assigned areas.Works with employees to ensure that assigned buildings work orders and other complaints from their buildings are completed in a timely manner. Ensures that the custodians have the proper materials and supplies in the buildings to do the jobs effectively. Works with staff under him/her to make changes in their Cleaning Zone to ensure that the buildings are serviced in a timely manner to department standards.
Responds to emergency situations during and after hours. Emergency situations may include; property damage, personal injury, water leaks, flooding, overflowing restroom fixtures, broken window or door glass, and accidents resulting in the appearance of bodily fluids (blood, vomit waste, and urine).
Serves as a member of the Physical Plant Essential Personnel and as directed by the Physical Plant participates in pre-emergency preparations and post emergency recovery efforts.
Additional duties as assigned by Custodial Leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
One year certificate from college or technical school; or 3 years of related experience in a higher education setting or commercial cleaning environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of University policies and procedures, professional standards and regulations, safety requirements and a knowledge of basic first aid.
Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures, and the use of custodial materials, tools, equipment, and chemicals.
Skill in managing ones’ own time and the time of others while monitoring/assessing the performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
Skill in the operation of office equipment including, but not limited to, multiline telephone, typewriter, calculator, multi-function printer/copy/scan/fax machine and computer as well as computer applications including spreadsheet, database, and word processing software.
Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure and the ability to react and respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.
Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
Skill in material resources management through obtaining and seeing to the appropriate use of equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work.
Ability to obtain a driver’s license prior to employment.
Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
